I am planning to open a bussiness that would focus on genealogy research. The problem is I am worried that it may not bring the bussiness that i would like. My plan is to have a research center, book store with genealogy/history items and to have it set up like a boarders book store that has a coffee house as well. I would love to hear any comments/advice/suggestions. Thank you lisa
Hello all, I recently recieved some good info on my CARROLL line from Hancock Co. I found out that my g-g-grandmother's maiden name was Elizabeth MITCHELL (b.ca 1853), wife of my g-g-grandfather, Benjaman Carroll. Benjaman's parents were William and Jane Carroll. I also found out that Jane was an OSBORNE (she was born ca 1830). Does anybody have any info on the families of Jane Osborne and Elizabeth Mitchell. Elizabeth may be the daughter of Sterling and Charity (FLETCHER) Mitchell. Thanks in advance, Kevin Mullins MULLINS, COLLINS, BELL, BIRD, MISER, JOHNSON, GOINS, CARROLL, FISHER, and various Newmans Ridge/Blackwater/Powell Mt area families like Gibson, Moore, Minor, Bunch, Delp, and Goodman.

Hello Sandy, You may purchase the books, Hancock County, Tennessee and its People, Vol I and II, from the Hancock County TN Historical & Genealogical Society. Go to our website at: www.korrnet.org/overhome/page3.html Click on "Research Books Available" and you will find how to order the books. We are currently publishing a pictorial history book of the county. Sometime this year, we will begin work on Vol III of Hancock CO, and its People. My great grandfather BONARGES RILEY born 1820 in Va was on the 1860 census, listed as single, in the HH of Sam/Dan (couldn't read) O'Ferrell, with an eight year old son, WILLIAM O. with a Carter family two HH's away. He enlisted in the Union Army in 1863 at Irvine Co. KY. An annotated 1880 census of Owsley Co. Ky says he had three previous marriages prior to marrying my grandmother. I have not been able to find where this information came from, not from lack of trying. Any little bit of information would really be appreciated as this is my biggest block wall...I do have some others. Thanks. Marie in Ca. mbbollin@koan.com > > >

In reply to Patricia's question re: Hancock Co. records. In the book, "Hancock County and it's People, Volume 2, 1994," on page 29, left hand column, Alonzo Jason Tyler (1861 - 1956) writes about the court house burning twice during his life. I quote: "Each time, almost all the deeds and records of the county were destroyed. Another court house was then built, a good one. .....This one was fireproof." I hope this helps. -- Richard A. Would someone who has access to the 1860 Hancock County, TN Census please lookup a GILBERT family for me. I understand that there is a GILBERT family on page 497 and another on page 522. I'm hoping to find Sarah (Sally) GILBERT who would be about 73 years old. Thanks. -- Kathy Ward kward2@osf1.gmu.edu

In a message dated 1/1/01 11:39:04 AM Central Standard Time, homer@etv.net writes: > Hancock County was formed in 1844. Thanks to all who have answered my question on the formation of Hancock Co. I have also been informed there are not many records due to several fires. Were all the records destroyed? I have been informed that my ancestor was the first to marry in Hancock Co. Is there somewhere I might be able find the dates and verify which is his first wife? Any suggestions is appreciated. I am looking for the marriage dates of Moreman Lawson Jr. and either Elizabeth Unknown or Martha Mullens/Mullins. Probably married in 1844. Believe Elizabeth died in the 1850s. Are there any records that might help me find out info on her death? Patricia
Could someone please tell me when Hancock County, TN was formed? Patricia

I am trying to find the location of the Wolfe Cem. in Hancock County. The directions given in the Cemetary portion of Hancock County, TN and its People Volume II are "N.W. behind Providence Church on Kermit Winsteads place." If someone can just give me a general area I would appreciate it. If someone would give me directions coming from Thorn Hill I would be ecstatic. Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.
