    3. Ron to give you some help to your question: There is an abstract of the 1862 Assessment List of the United States Direct Tax Commission for Hamilton County, Tennessee. It was created from National Archives publication T227, Assessment Lists of the United States Direct Tax Commission for the District of Tennessee located at the Tennessee State Library and Archives and other locations. It contains an alphabetical list of property owners, the civil district in which the property was located, the amount of land owned, the value of the land, the amount of the property tax and the page number of the microfilm on which the complete entry will be found. . The assessment was made under the Act of Congress entitled, "An Act for the Collection of Direct Taxes in the insurrectionary districts, within the United States, and other purposes, approved June 7, 1862, and the act amendatory thereto." you do not say where you live, if in Chattanooga, I would suggest the library. I know the Bradley county has this microfilm, but don't know if it also contains Hamilton co?? A FAVOR: if you find that the Hamilton Co library does have this microfilm, or does NOT have this microfilm in its collection, would you please post the response on line, -- so when next in Chattanooga, I can request that film. if you are close to a NARA facility they also may have it -- check first. I found it most helpful for Bradley county, as it stated exactly how much land they owned. Phebe Morgan
