    1. [TNHAMILT] RAINS LOOK-UP

    3. David, I did not find your Philip but these RAINS are who I found in Hamilton County, TN on the various censuses: 1840: JOHN S. RAINS 20001 - 10001 1840: JAMES RAINS 00000001 - 00000001 1850: #387/#387 Harrison Twp. RAINS, Liburn 26 m. farmer TN Rebecca 21 f. TN Missouri 03 f. TN James 1 m. TN 1850: #768/#768 Chattanooga RAYNES, Sarah 22 f. Tn Philip 1/2 m. I would suspect that Sarah is probably the widow of your Philip and they named their son Philip. Philip could possibly be the son of John S. Rains of the 1840 census but the census certainly does not show an 11 year old boy in the household in 1840. And James of 1840 seems too old and does not show a son. Hope some of this gives you at least a lead...Jo "david c. rains" wrote: > I am trying to identify the parents, birthplace, etc., of Philip > Rains, > who appears in the 1850 Mortality Index for Hamilton County as dying > of > "the fever" at age 21. > > Does the Index have such information and if so, is there anyone in > Hamilton County who might check it for me?
