    1. [TNHAMILT] Area Study
    2. For a study of cultural conditions in Monroe, Blount,Loudon (and surrounding area), I am focusing onthe HOWARD/McGHEE/JONES feud and would appreciate input from descendants of the contemporaries of the feud events. JONES and HOWARD families had close ties to HAMILTON COUNTY, and Hamilton Count newspapers reported extensively on the feud episodes, which lasted from 1898 through 1902. This research will delve beyond previous feud accounts. Any of your ancestors' memories of how these events were perceived then, as well as how they are regarded today are appreciated. 1. [TNHAMILT] BIGGS
    2. Netta
    3. Brand new to your list! Hi everyone! I am interested in learning about the BIGGS line from Hamilton County. I have just recently learned that James BIGGS married 1st Mary GWIN 21 Nov 1816. James and Mary had 13 children, as follows: Charles, Luther, John Willis, Allen, Ruth, Preston, Georgia, Willis A, James, Kizzere, Elizabeth, Andrew and Franklin. James married 2nd Leanner GOBLET 06 Aug 1856, also in Hamilton County. James and Leanner had 2 children that I know of: Buchanan and Thomas C. The BIGGS line I am researching stems from Thomas C. BIGGS and Linnie BARRETT. All I know about Thomas C. is that he was born 1861. I don't have marriage date or death date for him. I know nothing about Linnie. Would like to know her various dates, parents and siblings if possible. Anyone recogize this line???? Any comments, corrections or directions would be most appreciated. Thanks! Netta

    2. -kgs-
    3. Some time ago I had a message about Daniel GRIFFIN who lived in Hamilton Co. I lost the person's email and would like to correspond with him more. My Griffin family research is setting stale as it was 18 years ago. Any help on Griffin families in this area of Tennessee (Hamilton, Rhea, Meigs, Blount, McMinn, Roane, Polk) would certainly be much appreciated. Thanks for reading and good luck to all. Kay

    2. Bushy Hartman
    3. Hi all, I first wish to thank all of you for helping me locate the address of the Paper Co. my grandfather may of worked for in the twenties and thirties. That would be Molly, Bill & Felishia, what a super bunch of folks. Felishia just sent me the address and I will let you all know if this pans out. I did try writing to the funeral home on my greatgrandmothers death certificate. It was the CHATTANOOGA FUNERAL HOME. This is the following information I received back: Name Date of Birth Place of Birth (only state) Age Date of death Place of death Doctor Name of father Name of mother Military record SSN Occupation Widowed Sex Place of funeral date of funeral Place of internment Minister Body prepared by Director Sadly they didn't include her second husband's first name or the city she was born in. That was what I was looking for. Hope this helps someone. Bushy Hartman mihartman@infoave.net

    1. [TNHAMILT] Paper Companies in Chattanooga in the 1920-30's
    2. Bushy Hartman
    3. Molly mentioned O.B. Andrews Paper Company was operating in Chattanooga and they have changed the name. By any chance would they have changed the name to Georgia-Pacific? They have them all over the south and also in WV which from the OH list I have been told they had a plant in WV and the folks lived in Toronto, OH. That would explain why he left Chattanooga and went to OH for a certain amount of time and then returned. Thanks everyone Bushy mihartman@infoave.net Also I am sorry to say I don't know how far back the school records go but it only cost you a couple of stamps so why not give it a try? My records were from 1937 & 1930.

    3. Carolyn posed a couple of good questions. I am hoping there is a second envelope coming and was just seperated in the mail. There wasn't any charges with the one I received or any type of communication. I am sorry I can not answer your questions. I will let you know though if I do hear more from the great folks that filled my request. I will send a gratuity if there aren't any charges since they were so nice and fast with handling my request. I always try to leave a great impression so others who follow will be treated like I was. Bushy > Hello Bushy! > > I appreciate the posting about the Hamilton Co. School Records. 1. [TNHAMILT] school records and a wealth of information
    2. Bushy Hartman
    3. I promised to pass along how it went ordering school records. I sent last week and already received them today. I sent a list of my fathers siblings, their parents, and their home address along with birth dates but a couple not sure of. Out of five I received three and one being my fathers. I don't know if they sent another envelope since this one was full so if you order more than one you should send an envelope with each request since each report is two pages. I have found out the positive birth dates for my father's siblings and birth location. I also found out they lived for a time in Toronto, OH. I have to figure this out still. I do know that my grandfather requested his social security card in OH and wasn't sure they were one in the same person, now I know. I have sent for his application just haven't received it yet. I also learned that my grandfathers occupation was Paper Machine Tender, what ever that is. I don't know if they had a postion in the Army for that or if he worked for a newspaper. I wanted to thank again those that were so kind in helping an out of towner and I hope passing this on gives someone more light on their ancestors past. Bushy Hartman mihartman@infoave.net The information contained in the records was: Full name of child Place of birth and date Name of parent or guardian & their occupation Place of residence before entering school School last attended Age when discharged Latest residence Date of Admission/Age Sept 1st/Grade/Room/Health/Conduct/Scholarship It can give if they had a medical problem. The address that Jack in TN was so kind to provide was: mail a letter to: Hamilton County School Records Office Attn: Ruby Collins 1161 W. 40th Street Chattanooga,TN 37409

    3. I want to thank all the great folks that helped me the last few days. Also I have written for my father's school records(thanks Jack in TN) and will let everyone know how much records cost and what they reveal. I have also asked about photos that may be archived. Here are a couple of sites that you may find interesting if you ancestors were stationed in Fort Oglethorpe and living in Chattanooga. http://ngeorgia.com/county/catoosa.html Archives for Catoosa Co., GA http://catoosa.com/history/index-history.html This is just over the border from TN and located in GA. 3. I also tried to email the library. I had tried to open the obituary index and was told something about this file's not being "implemented." Since that didn't work, I clicked on their email address to ask about it, but the message was returned. Does anyone know about the availability of the obits indexat the present time? Another question--how do I use a reply on this list, so that it will go to the whole list rather than to the individual? I finally did a copy and paste here from my address book. I tried Shift-Reply and Control-Reply. 2. Nicole Pinson
    3. Bushy, You can send a request to the Chattanooga library with $10 and they will send you a copy of the article. Also, the Tennessee State Archives has Chattanooga newspapers, see http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/paper-c1.htm#Chattanooga Their fee is $5 Try the Family History Library. Their online catalog http://www.familysearch.org/Search/searchcatalog.asp They have a good collection of Hamilton Co/Chattanooga records, including some Chattanooga City Directories. I don't know if they (the Salt Lake City Family History Library) will do a search of their records but you can order microfilm (for about $3) from your nearest Family History Library.
