    1. [TNHAMILT] Gravel Hill School
    2. Has anyone had any luck accessing early 1900 - 1930 records from Gravel Hill School just outside of Birchwood? I wish I could say what county the school would have fallen in ... Hamilton or Meigs. I doubt serviously that the wood frame school house is still standing ... but would school records have survived somewhere in the Chattanooga/Cleveland area? catherine

    1. [TNHAMILT] James M. SMITH - living 1850 Walker Co., GA
    2. Kathleen
    3. It has been a while since I posted one of my Smith Queries. Maybe this time will be my lucky time on my most difficult Smith line. James Middleton Smith born about 1809 either in the area of Walker Co., GA or Hamilton Co., TN. He was living in Hamilton Co., TN up until about 1844 when he moved his family to Lookout Mountain, Walker Co., GA or the boundaries changed. By 1860 he has migrated to Randolph Co., AR. James Middleton Smith married Susan Wallen before 1830, and they were the parents of William b. 1830 (possibly married a Margaret). Sally b. 1832, Mary b. 1834, Priscilla b. 1836 (married William M. Stout of Hamilton Co., TN and they also migrated to Randolph Co., AR), Campbell b. 1839 (married Angeline Davis), Nancy b 1840, Caroline Catherine b. 1841, (all of these children were born in Hamilton Co., TN), Martha b 1844, Tennessee b. 1848 (I have some confusion with her marriages, William J Sammons and Robert C. Stout) (all of these children were born in Walker Co., GA) and Henry b. 1859 in Randolph Co., AR. Susan died sometime between 1859 and April of 1863 -- James M. Smith married again to a Mary C. Morris and is living with her in 1870 in Randolph Co., AR. A Littleton M. Smith with wife Bathsheba were living in Walker Co., GA in 1850 and is also living in Randolph Co., AR in 1860 - Littleton and James Middleton might be brothers. Would love to connect with others who know of this Smith Line. Kathleen Burnett

    2. Well, on the kinship, I found the first two sites listed to still be confusing. The third site explains a little more plainly and understandably. The fourth site....still somewhat confusing. But I think I've got the "removed" thing down. Renea

    1. [TNHAMILT] 1881 Death Records
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. The 1881 Death Records for Hamilton County are now online - http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnhamilt/1881vr-d.htm On the Forest Hills side of life - I've resurveyed the first 1680 records and will be updating those shortly. This leaves approximately 5600 records to look at the second time. For a final verification, I'll re-review the ones I've 'corrected' as upon further viewing of records, I begin to figure out what some of those letters really were! :) I've also transcribed another 390 records to add to the original ones I got from the cemetery for a current total of 7680. At the end of December, Forest Hills buried number 43,000...so you see I've a ways to go! I've already considered other possibilities to assist the researcher there, but that is a long time away. Shortly I plan to add a link to an information page to let you all know what else keeps me busy! Tim

    1. [TNHAMILT] Marriage Lookup
    2. Donna Barnes
    3. If someone has marriage records and has the time, could you please do a lookup for a David Wrinkle/Rinkle and an Elizabeth in the 1848 to 1857 timeframe? It would have been a 2nd or 3rd marriage for both. This marriage would have been in Hamilton or Bradley. I've sent the same message to both sites so excuse me if you get this twice. Thanks so much for your assistance. Donna Barnes

    1. [TNHAMILT] REPLY: Where is Flattop?
    2. jeanne overbay
    3. According to my 1939 Postal Guide, Flattop was located in Hamilton County. Can someone please tell me where it was located? *** Flattop is on Waldens Ridge west of Soddy Daisy. It is a very old community, my ancestors settled there in the early 1800's. To get there today from Chattanooga, take Hwy 27 north to Soddy Lake, then take Hwy 111 west toward Dunlap. When you get on top of the mountain turn right on Jones Gap Road. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
