    1. [TNHAMILT] Gothard Will; Martin Will.
    2. Donna Barnes
    3. I'm looking for anyone who is connected to the following 2 families ( they are not necessarily related) JAMES GOTHARD - Hamilton Co. in 1886(got the info from a will and the names may not be spelled correctly - these are my best guesses) Children: Mary Thismon; Larkin Gothard, Ira Gothard, John Gothard, Lewis Gothard, Arabel Olinger, Mahala Morgan, Margaret Rogers, Ibby Hoston, Nancy Dolinson, Elmira Shipley, Elizabeth Gothard. Grandson: Thomas Coleman No wife mentioned so I suspect she has already died. I'm particularly interested in Margaret. I'm looking for a Margaret Gothard who married a Samuel Davis in 1857 in Hamilton Co. I'm trying to connect Sam to my Davis family in that area. SAMUEL MARTIN (information from a will) in Hamilton Co., 1887 Wife - Elizabeth No children mentioned, but mentions grandsons: Samuel and Thomas Martin. Sister - Hannah Henry Also mentions Margret Gornan (?) I have a Martin line that wandered into Hamilton Co. for a short time and am wondering if this is them. Any assistance on either of these fellas would be greatly appreciated. Donna

    3. >From 1976, Polk County News by Roy G. Lillard The Garden Club of Benton has erected a marker in the Town of Benton Cemetery, " IN MEMORY OF EARLY SETTLERS, CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS AND SLAVES OF POLK COUNTY WHOSE GRAVES HAVE BEEN LOST" The marker is constructed of rock from the JD Clemmer map of Polk County; with the Clemmer Family donating the rock. The bronze plaque was given by Mr.s Susan Jones. Included in the memeorials are the slaves of the Hildebrand Family, the Gamble Family and the McClary Family. James McKamy's farm which had gained prominence as a stock stand on the Old Federal Road later became the Town of Benton. During the second week of April, 1840, Benton was sold at auction bringing, in all. $11,386.00. However,James McKamy gave each of the three churches, the Baptists, Methodist and Presbyterian a lot; he also donated the original Town of Benton Cemetery. 1. [TNHAMILT] Parkers and Andersons
    2. Jim & Donna Nix
    3. I posted a message some months back looking for a John Parker, b. about 1834 near Chattanooga who later migrated to DeKalb/Etowah Counties area of Alabama. I found enough evidence to convince me that this John Parker was the son of Elisha Parker of Hamilton County. I also found information (where I can't remember at the moment) that this John Parker married Nancy Johnson Anderson. On the Hamilton County TNGENWEB site, I found that the 1860 Hamilton County Census has been posted. In it I found a Nancy Hamilton, b. GA about 1839, daughter of L.W. Anderson, b. VA about 1810, and Rebecca Anderson, b. SC about 1810. This seems a good possibility for a match because I have what would be a granddaughter to Rebecca Anderson via the above mentioned marriage also named Rebecca. Is anyone on the list researching these Andersons? Jim Nix Birmingham, AL

    2. Bill Orton
    3. I found the folowing on another list: I found this little goodie at <http://www.genealogybulletin.com/archives/HTML/etc70.html> while surfing the Web earlier this week. I thought you all might be interested in reading it. According to a tidbit from genealogical society bulletins, 78 percent of the Union Army in the Civil War was comprised of lads 15 to 18 years old. Data gleaned from government records reveals figures that may surprise you. Here are the statistics from the total enlistment of Northern soldiers during the Civil War: Age Number of Personnel 10 ............ 25 11 ............ 34 12 ............225 13 ............380 14 ...........1602 15 ........104,987 (3.5%) 16 ........231,051 (8.0%) 17 ........884,981 (28.0%) 18 ......1,158,434 (38.5%) 19-22 .....617,511 (20.5%) 22-44 ......52,696 45+ .....Not given How old was your ancestor when he served in the Civil War? Keep his age in mind as you see portrayals or read battle accounts. How would your 17-year-old son fare?

    3. During the years of the Removal of the Cherokee from the eastern US most of the Indians were transported to Ross'es Landing now in downtown Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN. We have been told that our grandfather and grandmother, Abraham and Winnifred Jackson/Hembree died in Chattanooga in 1835 while awaiting removal. Both were quite old...late 70's. Does anyone know if there is detailed documentation of the events there during this years. Births, deaths, marriages, sites of burials?? Also, to what blood degree were they, usually, when left alone and not removed. Best we can tell Abraham was probably--maybe 1/4th. Would that have been enough for forced removal? Joyce G.
