    1. [TNHAMILT] Marriage Question
    2. Donna Barnes
    3. I've jsut received copies of marriage records for a couple of my ancestors. One of the records, dated in 1877, has "don't publish" written over the names. Anyone have any idea why some of the records say "don't publish"? It is at the request of the couple, something legal, or what? Thanks. Donna

    1. [TNHAMILT] STILL Looking for the ancestors of James M. Smith b.
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Still looking for the ancestors of James M. Smith b. abt 1809 in GA. Yes, another James M. Smith. (Middleton). James was born most likely in Walker Co., GA, though there is not proof. He was living in Hamilton Co., TN in 1830, it is unknown where he was in 1840, and in Walker Co., GA in 1850 and in Randolph Co., AR in 1860. James was married to Susan Wallen before 1830. They were the the parents of the following known children, William, Sally, Mary, Priscilla, Campbell, Nancy, CAroline Catherine, Martha, Tennessee and Henry. In 1830 James M. Smith and female of about same age lived next to a Charles Smith age btw 50 and 59. James might have had a brother Littleton Smith who also lived in Walker Co., GA and migrated to Randolph Co., AR. Would love to hear from you if you know of this family and can add some missing pieces. Kathleen Burnett

    2. Donna Barnes
    3. Are there still records of court cases re: lewd behavior in Hamilton Co. for 1856-57? Supposedly, an ancestor Samuel Davis and Margaret Gothard were taken to court for same. I'd love to see what the case file had to say. I have to admit, my Davis line has all kinds of "interesting" stuff. Thanks Donna

    3. A variation of the Badtrans virus is loose again - I've got about 40 of them today. As I saw them downloading - I deleted the attachments - .scr and .pif but according to the info below, I'm not sure that that was enough. Tim >From a list I'm on: 'It's a variation of the badtran virus. This one lauches itself through a blank email. You don't have to open the attachment for it to run amuk. I don't see any updates on McAfee or Symantec for it; This virus eats up every available byte of memory you've got, and I'd guess would then crash your computer without utilities to recover memory. I know it's a variation of the badtran, that much I've figured out. It sends itself out to everyone in your address book, not just unread mail as previous versions of the badtran. It also launches itself by simply reading the email since the program is embedded into a blank email. I'd suggest that you set your email program NOT to show HTML emails, but only in .txt format. I think that will stop it from launching (but I'm not sure). When it resends itself, it uses several different file extensions and file names. So don't count on it being the same as what David said earlier. It won't be. This one is not writing the "kern32" or "inetd" files onto your root directory, like the badtran virus did. I haven't figured out what files were written, but I do know that the system registry was affected, just like the original badtran. It also seems to resend itself AGAIN everytime you get online. So, expect several copies of it from all us idiots who don't want to waste disk space on anti-virus programs.' Tim

    2. Beverly Taylor
    3. Chris, Afraid that I am not related to the Cash family, just happen to have the census handy and just thought I would add a little input. My TN lines are mainly Sparks, Gann, Daughtery. As far as TX is concerned, Josiah Taylor, my 3rd great grandfather first came to TX in 1812 with the Gutierrez-Magee Expedition and then returned again in 1824 with his family and help settle the Green DeWitt Colony. His descendants were the Taylor faction of the Sutton-Taylor Feud. Josiah's family were living in TN just prior to migrating to TX in 1824. Beverly

    1. [TNHAMILT] Hanging of Pressley Lominack During Civil War
    2. Teresa Harris
    3. I am researching the hanging of Pressley R. Lominack during the Civil War (1862-1863?). Pressley was b 1817 in Newberry Co., SC. and later moved to Hamilton Co., TN. He served as county surveyor from 1848-1854 and married to Elizabeth Daugherty about 1840. He appears on the 1860 Hamilton Co., TN census. It is believed he may have also been married to Elvina Elizabeth Simpson. Pressley did not serve in the war but was believed by his neighbors to have had Yankee sympathies. The story goes that neighbors hung him in 1863 on his own land. Family lore says the men responsible were hunted down and killed (near Ft. Smith, Arkansas) by his sons, James and William. Elizabeth continued to live in Hamilton Co. until her death sometime about 1886. I would appreciate it very much if any of you working Hamilton Co., TN could give me tips or suggestions on where I might go next to find out more on this murder. Are there any surviving newspapers or journals/diaries that might have mentioned this incident?? Pressley is buried in Lominack Cemetery in East Ridge, TN in an unmarked grave. His family was afraid to mark his grave fearing desecration. Thanks, Teresa Harris 3 great grand daughter of Pressley
