This was his 2nd marriage. He was born 1745 in Mendham, N J and moved to Guilford and then Burke Co., NC and died Knox Co., Tn. "In 1791 he lived Burke Co., NC so I have wondered how he knew Sparling. I have wondered if he lived Md. between 1756 and 1770 where there is a blank in my original records of him. "Kay in Tennessee " ======================================================= Hello Kay, Knowing how families often migrated together, and how they tended to "stick together", it is possible your John HINDS was acquainted with the BOWMAN family in Maryland. It is possible that John did live in MD for a while, 1756-1770, OR that there were some ties between the HINDS and BOWMAN families later in Greene Co., Tennessee. Now, about your HINDS family. Wow! My daughter-in-law's mother was a HINDS. We've traced them back to about 1840 in Roane Co., Tennessee, and I wonder if your HINDS are related to our HINDS. One thing to remember is how the counties in Tennessee were formed when doing research. Roane Co., to where our HINDS first migrated, was originally a part of Greene Co. 1776-Washington District of NC was formed 1777-Washington Co. NC was formed 1783-Greene Co., NC, was formed from part of Washington Co. 1792-Knox Co., NC, was formed from part of Greene Co. 1796-Knox Co., NC, became Knox Co., TN 1801-Roane Co, TN, was formed from Knox Co. This is just to illustrate that when someone was said to have been in "Greene Co." in 1791, that doesn't mean that the actual place where he was located is now located in Greene Co. I think with your John HINDS, he may have lived in the part of early Greene Co., that became Knox Co. You might find records in Knox Co., or even in Roane Co. It's always to take into consideration the county formations when searching for records. Where you "think" the records should be is not always the place where they actually are. I would love to know about your HINDS families in Tennessee to see if they tie into our family. Especially since we haven't been able to get back past Joseph HINDS, born about 1840.
