I hate when that happens. All of the other stuff I found has D. as the written initial including the marriage document and his tombstone. The 1910 and 1920 Censuses goes back to using the D. as the middle initial. The 1930 cesus has him as just Sam and says he was born in 1870. They like to throw a wrench in there just to confuse you :D My grandfather was Samuel Dewey Taylor and went by his middle name. Even the Social Security office had his name as Dewey. I'm assuming my Samuel Sr. middle name was Dewey but I haven't come across anything that says what the D. stands for. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
