According to the Brown research records I received at the 2001 Reunion, William Babb married Mirey Brown, daughter of Jotham Brown, Sr. and Phoebe Johnston Brown. Quoting from a research paper distributed at the Reunion: "From the Montgomery County, Virginia court records – Deed Book C – page 326: May 16, 1800 – the following heirs of Jothem Brown, then deceased, conveyed 104 acres lying in that county, on Terry’s Creek, a branch of the Little River to Benjamin Craig of the same county. The heirs named on the deed as follows: Wife, Phoebe Brown, Christopher Cooper, Salvanes (Sylvanous) Brown, John Willes, David Brown, John Brown, Mary Brown, Lydia Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Jothem Brown, Mirey Brown and William Brown. From this instrument we have the probable children of Jothem Brown Sr. It would appear at this time only two daughters were married, one to Christopher Cooper, her name Jane, and one who married John Willes. Additional research distributed at the Reunion indicates that Mirey Brown married William Babb on 5 November 1807 in TN. If this is your ancestor (and it sounds like it is) she was indeed a sister of the Jotham Brown who married Margaret Maloney, but we believe her parents were Jotham Brown, Sr. and Phoebe Johnston. If so, you are my distant cousin, and I'm very happy to meet you! Who has the right answers? We may never know. This at least is one version that seems to make sense. And you sure have a lot of Brown cousins in Greene Co.! Jim Slone
