    3. Hello Jim, Thank you for this note to the list. Do you have anywhere a Malvina (spelling on census) or(Melvina?) D. Brown in your listing of Browns? In the 1851 census , I think, she is listed next to a John Morrison family. She was 19 and living away from home. I had thought that she may have been related to or connected in some way with this family. However, there are a couple of problems with the lines you have listed that I want to offer a different opinion on. > At the 2001 Brown Reunion, held at Cross Anchor, we tried to assemble a genealogy and generally had evidence that: > 1. Your Jotham Brown the 2nd was married to Margaret (Peggy) Maloney. Their tombstones are side-by-side at the cemetery. > 2. Their children seem to be: Robert, Hugh, John, James, Martha, and the Rev. Alexander Brown, long-time pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church there at Cross Anchor. > 3. He was the son of Jotham Brown, who married Phoebe Johnston. Their children, from the Montgomery Co., VA court records, were: Jane, Sylvanus, William, David, John, Elizabeth, Jotham 2nd, Mirey, Lydia, Mary, and another daughter whose name we do not know. Perhaps she is the Phoebe you have listed. > 4. The Jotham Brown who married Polly Johnson (I show her name as Mary instead of Elizabeth) appears to be the grandson of Jotham 1st through David Brown and Nancy Ann Craig. > 5. The children you associate with Jotham 2nd actually appear to belong to Jotham Benjamin Brown, another grandson of Jotham 1st, through Sylvanus Brown and Ruth Johnston. > 6. I told you this was almost impossible to straighten out! There are still other Jothams, but to list them would only add to the confusion... > > Who do you show as the spouse of William, son of Jotham 1st and Phoebe? I'm just trying to offer another opinion. By the way, I have 3 Ruth Browns, but none of them seem to fit. > > Jim Slone > > > ==== TNGREENE Mailing List ==== > Search the new Greene County Ancestor's Surname page > to see who could be researching the same line: > http://www.genealogyforyou.com/usa/tennessee/greene/register.htm > >
