    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4302.1 Message Board Post: >>>Can anyone tell me how it is that a host of a web site can just leave and take the web site with her/him? Doesn't the information belong to the people of Greene County, since it came from their records???? And is the host of a county web site paid by Usgenweb, or does she act voluntarily? How is she/he selected to handle all material for a county? I know I should be asking Usgenweb these questions, but I want feedback from researchers in Greene County where the former host Bridgett Schneider did not even live.<<< Dorothy, USGenWeb project is an ALL VOLUNTEER project. USGenWeb does NOT pay for my site, nor any other site at this time (the national organization, nor the state organization). I *can* take the site with me because it is my site, 90% of the information was gathered by me, and I put it on the web. I used to ask folks for contributions, actually beg for them, but no one wanted to contribute. The information on the site is public information, it doesn't "belong" to anyone specifically, but everyone. If everyone will look on this message board under the dropdown menu labeled "classifications" -- all wills, deeds, bios, obits, etc, etc. etc. are still available. Nothing has been removed that was contributed to this board. Why are you so outraged with me moving my own site? The site you originally complained that was changed was the USGenWeb Archives site. I have nothing to do with the those changes, I don't handle any of the information that comes in there, and you will have to take your complaints to the TN USGenWeb ARCHIVES host, not me. I tried my best for the researchers of Greene County, and this is what I get in return. Thanks a bunch. Why did I originally take on the Greene County TNGenWeb site? Because my roots or so deep in that county that I wanted to do something to help others research. My ancestors were there when it was created, and my parents were the first to leave the area. Just because I don't live there doesn't mean a thing. *MOST* USGenWeb County Hosts don't live in the county they host. Bridgett
