This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4302 Message Board Post: The former Greene County page or 'Site' which genealogy researchers were used to seeing for the past 7 years and which was hosted by Bridgett Schneider has been removed from Usgenweb.org and is now at the following URL: http://www.genealogyforyou.com/usa/tennessee/greene Bridgett told me that the site is exactly as it was before except that it is no longer with Usgenweb.org but another server. She also said the format for the Greene County Archives has been changed by someone else, making it more difficult to find things. Bridgett said that she has redirects on the main pages that folks usually visit on the site and claims the site is picked up by 90% of the search engines. She recommends book-marking the main page. Can anyone tell me how it is that a host of a web site can just leave and take the web site with her/him? Doesn't the information belong to the people of Greene County, since it came from their records???? And is the host of a county web site paid by Usgenweb, or does she act voluntarily? How is she/he selected to handle all material for a county? I know I should be asking Usgenweb these questions, but I want feedback from researchers in Greene County where the former host Bridgett Schneider did not even live.
