    3. I appreciate very much anyone who maintains a genealogy mailinh list or web site. In general here's always more criticism than praise for their volunteer efforts. So thanks Bridget, Jim Rader, Claude Ferguson, and the many many others who have inventories cemeteries, transcribed census records, and all the many other documents posted on the interet. For anyone interested, the Bright Hope ledgers is now at Claude's web site http://www.kiva.net/~jeskewic/brighthope.html I do have a question or two that I hope someone can answer for me. How is RootsWeb managed? It seems that Ancestry.com is having more and more of a control - for lack of another appropriate word - over information available at RootsWeb. I realize that administering such a comprehensive site is a monumental task, but it's my understanding that RootsWeb was created as a free service and that in the past contributions have been asked for to pay for the use of servers and to maintain equipment, but it seems to me that advertising is appearing and the the recently appearing OTHER MATCHES column on the search results pages refers researchers to Ancestry web pages where information is available to members only. I'd just like to know how much control Ancestry has at RootsWeb now. Will individual gedcoms eventually be accesible only to those who have paid annual dues to Ancestry? How much longer will it be before we have to pay annual dues to gain access to public records? I for one am a senior citizen on a fixed income and cannot afford to pay for access to public records even if those records have been gathered by someone else? Am I the only one with questions like this? Bob Wallace
