The Payne family is very large. My grandmother was one of 12 and I know those before her had tons of children. Unfortunately I became fascinated with genealogy a little too late to really talk to my grandmother. She has dementia and keeps getting worse. It's very sad to watch and I hate that I can't get to her mind. What information I do have mostly came from my research, other family members, or what I remember her talking about. I can't get past Joseph Payne either. Brick walls are very frustrating. I have hit some big ones for sure. Most of my family comes from Greeneville, TN so I'm just going to have to make a trip soon. If you have any info on the Paynes, I would be happy to hear. I do know that James O. Payne served in the Civil War as a Union soldier. Other than that , I don't know much about him.
