Author: ATurekWoodward Surnames: Marshall,Carpenter, Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.greene/9359.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Do you know if any of them had a Lula Belle Marshall,b 1898-1966,who married a Roy Sidney Carpenter.He built them a little house in Johnson City out of scrap materials.When he died in 1950 ,he had $5.00 set aside for his first grandchilds tricycle(my husband)My husband was often babysat by Lula Bell,while his mother Emma,worked.Lula Belle had stomach cancer and would sip on moonshine all day to ease the pain.My husband thinks it was a brother of hers ,who was a bit of a bootlegger,that would bring it to her.Lula Bell had black hair and eyes,high pronounced cheek bones,short,and heavy upper arms and stomach,as did her daughter.Her son Richard,died in a firey car crash in Chicago,2nd son was in Korea,moved to Chicago.Emma married my husbands living father,then in Fla ,married Thomas Light,recently deceased,also from Johnson City.My husband remembers his mother walking him a few blocks down the same street in town as his grandmas house to see several women he thought were siste! rs of his Grandma.Does any of this ring a bell?,no pun intended. His stepsisters are coming to visit next month and never met their maternal grandmother,Emma never talked about her family .They have only an old beaded black bag in tatters that was supposed to be Lulas.I would love to be able to confirm who her parents were and at least get a start,now that their dad has died and they know nothing of his side.Seems people wait until it is too late before they think to ask,who are my family?any help appreciated.Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
