Mary (Jones) Nelson was my 4th great-aunt. She was born April 13, 1826 in Greeneville, Greene County, TN, to George Jones (1795-1866) and Keziah (Sevier) Jones (1806-1888). Mary (Jones) Nelson died January 16, 1901 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Her obituary appeared in the Knoxville Journal. Her son, Selden Nelson, was an amateur genealogist. He belonged to the Tennessee Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution (SOR). Selden states in one of his SOR applications that his grandmother Keziah Sevier Jones died May 11, 1888. I found in an old letter, written to Selden, that stated his grandfather, George Jones (1795-1866), had a brother Simpson Jones who lived in Franklin County, Indiana. Apparently, their father's name was James Jones who reportedly married Sarah Calfee. Mary's brother, Valentine Sevier Jones, was my 3rd great-grandfather. According to Dr. E.B. Smith's log book, Valentine Sevier Jones died July 11, 1873 in Greeneville, Greene County, Tennessee. His cause of death was cholera. Valentine married Almeda Simpson. Almeda was born in Kingsport, Sullivan County, Tennessee to Zadock Willett Simpson, Sr. (1801-1847) and Margaret Ann Bachman (1806-1883). Almeda died February 13, 1919 in District 22 of Greene County, Tennessee. She had children George Washington Jones, Robert S. Jones, Henry "Hal" Jones, Mack Jones, Joseph Sevier Jones, Valentine Jones, and Mary "Mae" Jones.
