Does anyone know if there is a copy of the early (1783 and later) tax list that is not in alphabetical order? I've heard the original is at the Nathaniel Greene Museum, is it in alpha order? I was hoping to find out who were John Oliphant's near neighbors along Sinking Creek in the 1783-1800 timeframe. John Oliphant was a blacksmith and I'm looking for mention of mills and blacksmithing operations in the Greeneville area. Has anyone located any early diaries, journals, or letters written by early Greene and surrounding county residents? Even non-fiction books from eastern TN about the early days would be interesting to me. I would like to learn more about the 1780-1850 timeframe. Thanks, Teresa
I don't think I posted this before, but found this in the Greene County Will book: GEORGE COOK 27 January 1815 Children: Henry, Sarah Harget, Elizabeth Cook, George, Nancy, Jacob, John, Christian Cook, Mary Meloy, Eve Hutchison, Margaret Nees. You probably already are aware of it, but I don't like to assume. Are you were aware that THE Andrew Jackson's mother was a Hutchison? If not, let me know, we researched our McKemie line and George McKemie was married to Margaret Hutchison, Elizabeth Hutchison's sister (Andrew's mother). We went to the Waxhaws (NC/SC) and have photos of the cemetery where Elizabeth Hutchison is buried along with relatives. I would appreciate information on this family. I am looking for Linda's (or Malinda) parents, James's parents, date of their marriage, etc. I have been unable to find this family in the 1900 census of Greene County. Any help is appreciated.
