I descend from Susannah Starns who married John Thornsberry in Greene County May 23, 1793. Her brother John Starns was also married to John Thornsberry's sister Elizabeth. The Thornsberrys, as the story is told, were excommunicated from the Quaker Church for marrying out of their faith. Most of the internet sites make her the daughter of Adam Jr. and Susannah Meeks STarns, but they would have been 10 years old when she was born. A few speculate that she is the daughter of Peter and Barbara Jane Starns who was the son of Thomas who was the son of Frederick and Mary Goldman Starns, but I have never seen any documentation or source. I do have a John Thornsberry, a Peter Starns and a John Starns on on Copper Creek in Scott County in the 1815, which lends some credence to the story. I notice you talked about those who came to Greene County, including Thomas, ... is there anything that you have seen or know that would help ! me sort out who Susannah's parents are. 1. [TNGREENE] Mrs. Asahel Rawlings
    2. Elaine and Lee Andersen
    3. The wife of Asahel Rawlings of Greene, TN (1742-3 DEC 1813) is usually listed as Margaret Rezin. I believe she was actually Margaret Kennedy, a half-sister to Col. Daniel Kennedy of Greene, TN and a full sibling to my ancestor John Kennedy, who was much older than Col. Daniel. The 1798 will of Thomas Kennedy of Berkeley, WV named his brother Col. Daniel Kennedy of Greene, TN and two half-sisters, Margaret Rawlings and Elizabeth Wilson. My John was not named in this will as he was already deceased. An excellent 37 marker DNA match between descendants of John Kennedy and Col. Daniel Kennedy prove their relationship. After Col. Daniel Kennedy died, his widow, Margaret Hughes Kennedy moved from Greene Co., TN, to Rhea Co., TN with some of their children. Margaret Hughes Kennedy left an 1817 will in Rhea Co., TN naming her executor as Asahel Rawling. Asahel , Sr. was dead by this time, so this had to be Asahel Rawlings, Jr. I have his birth date as 26 July 1781. In her will, Margaret Hughes Kennedy referred to Asahel as "my nephew." Asahel was her nephew because his mother wasMargaret Hughes Kennedy husband's half-sister. I believe the obvious choice for the husband of Elizabeth Wilson is Greene Co. Sheriff, James Wilson, but I have found found no definitive proof of this so far. Descendants of James Wilson believe his wife was Elizabeth Kennedy, half-sister to Col. Daniel Kennedy. Author: jstarnes199 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.greene/5144.3.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I have corresponded with you before. I have had the same issues with what I put in the post as you. I am certain on the line back to the two Leonards from records of Greene County, early tax records, the early census' and the early Land Grants that were in North Carolina, which became Greene County TN. The connection between Leonard and Joseph is more difficult to prove. Some Starnes' I know have different opinions, and some think that all the Starnes' in Greene County came from Adam, Joseph's brother. Although I cannot hold up concrete evidence that Leonard was Joseph's son, I also don't see anything out there to prove otherwise. It appears that Leonard would have arrived in what is now Greene County at about the same time as Adam, his uncle. Very early North Carolina Land Grants were given to Adam(2), Leonard, Thomas, and William Starnes. A later Grant was given to Elias Starnes (my great-great-great grandfather Jacob Starnes' brother) and an even later one to my great! -great-grandfather Alexander (AA) Starnes. Joseph Starnes purchased land in North Carolina in 1763. I believe that land might have been in the area near where the Land Grants were (Lost Mountain-Baileyton area) and that is what brought his son Leonard there after his father's death in Kentucky 1779. I believe the connection of Joseph as the son of Frederick is comfortably made in the Starnes book. I would love to hear anything you have, even a theory or two. Thank you for the post, I'm always interested to hear what Starnes' have to say. Bill Starnes Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jstarnes199 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.greene/5144.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Leonard Starnes my gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather is shown in the 1850 census with his wife Barbara both at age 70. Children still in the household are Elias age 27, and Nancy age 25. Jane Hybarger (age 40) is shown as living at the next household with her children, but her husband David Hybarger is not listed and must have passed away early. Her son William Hybarger is listed as age 13. Leonard's daughter Rebecca married Isaac Samuel Hybarger. In the 1860 census, Jacob Starnes (my gr-gr-gr-grandfather) is shown near the households of Elias Starnes and Jane Hybarger, now age 50. Leonard's wife Barbara is still alive in her 80s and living with Elias, as is his sister Nancy who never married. Leonard's father was Leonard Starnes, who died in 1828 in Greene County. His wife's name was Jane (don't know maiden name). His children were Jane Starnes, Leonard Starnes, Mary Starnes, Catherine Starnes, Barbara Starnes, and Thomas Starnes. From there, things get a bit sketchy, but from what! we have researched, the first Leonard's father was Joseph Starnes whose wife was Anna Catherine Carlock. Their children were Catherine Starnes, Joseph Starnes, Mary Starnes, Barbara Starnes, Nicholas Starnes, Jacob Starnes, Peter Starnes, and Leonard Starnes. Joseph Starnes' father was Frederick and his mother was Mary Goldman. Sorry for such a late response, I didn't see your post.
