Who is this Anthony Kelly? Is he the son of John and Jane Kelly of Washington Co, VA? Who is this Mary Kelly? Is she the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth Kelly of Greene County, TN? I hope someone can help me sort out this puzzle.

    1. [TNGREENE] Marriages of William Kellys and Margaret Kelly
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Kelly, Johnson, Ragens, Rodgers Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4179 Message Board Post: In an effort to learn to trace the children of Anthony Kelly (b. circa 1830-40 and died 1812 in Greene Co, TN), I checked the early Greene Co marriage records and found 3 William Kellys who married between 1796 and 1800. I need help in identifying which one is the son of Anthony named in his will along with daughters, Margaret and Mary. On Dec 6, 1796, a William Kelly married Margaret Johnson. One source has identified this William as the son of Anthony and another says that he was the son of James Kelly of Pittsylvania Co, VA. This William Kelly died in 1819. On Nov 16, 1799, a William Kelly married a Margaret Kelly with William Kelly listed as bondsman. Is this Margaret the daughter of Anthony listed in his will and is this William the son-in-law, William Kelly, listed in Anthony's will? Is William Kelly the bondsman the William Kelly son of Anthony and brother of Margaret? If so, who are the parents of William Kelly, the groom? and where did he and Margaret live and die? On Jan 4, 1800 a William Kelly married Sarah Ragens. Is he the son of Anthony? Who is she? Is Ragens actually Rogers and is she the daughter of James and Margaret Woods Rodgers? I hope that someone has some of the answers and can help me solve this puzzle. Mary F Kelley

    2. Hello, I'm new to the list and thought I would post my brickwall. Well actually it's for my cousins husband brickwall. lol I'm helping them with their tree. :~) Researching the Black family of Greene & Cocke Co.,TN Needing info on the following family: Need to know who Nathaniel Black Sr. parents are?? Nathaniel "Nathan" Black, Sr. b/ 1808 d/Aft.1860 he md. {@1838} Susan (LNU) b/ 1812 d/ Bet. 1856-1860. From them came 11 children and the direct line would be Nathan Jr. Nathan Jr. b/1848 md. {@1870} Margaret(LNU) b/ 1852 From them came 4 children [that I know of] and direct line would be James W. {J.W.} Black. James W. Black b/ 1871 d/@1915 md.{1890} Minnie Cordelia Lowe b/1872 d/1932 From them came 8 children. Now for the Lowe family of Greene County, TN: We know that the line goes back as far as John Henry Lowe b/ 1798 NC but it's speculation for us right now as to who his parents were. Specualtion is that it's Ezekiel, s/o Caleb, s/o WIlliam??? John Henry Lowe b/ 1798 d/Aft.1875 md. #1 {@1819} Mary Hutson, Wife #2- Mary "Polly" Hunt md. {1840} b/ 1810 d/ Aft. 1860 From wife #2 came 5 children [that we know of] which the direct line is Andrew Jackson Lowe. Andrew Jackson Lowe b/ 1843 md. {1859} Martha Hall b/1842 d/1900 From them came 5 children that we know of which the direct line is Minnie Cordelia Lowe. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please email me at your earliest convience at mykyhillbillytree@hotmail.com . Thanking everyone in advance for any help! Regards, Bobbie

Her 1860 census record says Tenn, so I am glad you corrected me on that. I'd be happy to share the story of Elizabeth, her husband David Logan, and their 7 children (4 boys, 3 girls). It was a fascinating piece of research finding them. It also lead me back to Greene Co. where I found the parents. Elizabeth's son Garrett Logan is my great grandfather. All four brothers volunteered to fight for the Union during the Civil War. Garrett was captured at the Battle of Marks Mill Arkansas. He later became an instructor at Rose Polytechnic Insititute in Terrre Haute Indiana. Elizabeth must have been a fair-skinned, red-headed Irish lady because her son Garrett was nicknamed "Red". I think it explains the red hair gene in our family. I can't tell you much more about the other children except dates of birth and nicknames. I do know that one brother, Eli, served with Garrett in the Civil War in the same outfit. There is more to the story of Elizabeth McPheron and David Logan, but space doesn't allow me to tell it. That lead to my confusion about her real maiden name. It's funny you should mention she was also named Jennie. We have a family record that indicates one of her grandaughters was known by that name. I appreciate that information on Jane McAmis. It helps complete that part of the history. At this point I only know part of history of children that came from this marriage, and it's incomplete. If you can supply birth dates, locations, etc. it would be appreciated. If you ever need to know the history of Elizabeth McPheron, one of the children from this marriage, I would be happy to share it with you. Elizabeth's death record unfortunately changed the spelling of the last name to McFerrin, but I like your spelling better if that's the right one. Doug
