I have found some evidence that her mother might have been Mary Ann "Polly" Holland. Mary Ann was married to Solomon Drain but Sarah Ann was born before they married. It appears that Mary Ann had either been married previously (possibly widowed) or had Sarah outside of marriage (possible, but unlikely). So finding Sarah's father may be more difficult than usual. Does any of this sound familiar to you? I have a little bit more info on the Drain's which may or may not help us find out about our Falls and Holland families. Let me know what you think. Deanne

    1. [TNGREENE] Re Falls family
    2. Claude
    3. Following is a exerpt from my unpublished family history: On 6 April 1822 David Boles purchased his 155-acre tract of land from Thomas Falls in Greene County Tennessee. Thomas Falls was on the tax list of Greene County for the year 1783 as published in the DAR Magazine of April 1919. The deed is recorded in Greene County Deed Book 13 pages 69 and 70 as follows: "This Indenture made this sixth day of April in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Two between Thomas Falls of the County of Greene and State of Tennessee of one part and David Bowls of the said County and State, Witnesseth, that the Said Thomas Falls for and in consideration of the Sum of Three Hundred Dollars in hand paid and Secured to be paid, hath Bargained and Sold to the Said David Bowls a Certain piece or parcel of Land Situate Lying and being in the County aforesaid on the North Side of Nolachuckey River Adjoining the Land of William Whittenberger and Land formerly of George Gordon. Beginning at a Black Oak thence North Sixty four poles to a Stake, West one hundred and Eighty four poles, South One Hundred and Fifty poles, South Eighty One East One hundred and Eighty Six poles to Whittenberger Line, thence to the Beginning. Containing One Hundred and Fifty five Acres - Together with all woods, ways, waters, water courses, profits Commodities and Ap! purtancences thereon thereunto Belonging. To Have and hold to the Said David Bowls and his Heirs forever, against the Lawful Title claim and Demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever, the Said Thomas Falls for himself and his Heirs He will by these presents warrant and forever defend - In witness whereof he hath Set his Hand and Seal the Date above written. Signed, Sealed and Delivered) in presence of ) Thos. Falls (seal) George Gordon ) Joseph Cregmiler ) State of Tennessee ) Greene County Court) April Sessions 1823 Then was the Execution of this Deed of Conveyance duly acknowledged by the within named Thomas Falls and admitted to Record - Let it be registered. A. Patterson, Clk By M. Payne D.C. Registered this 28th Day of July 1823 Attest George Brown R.o.D." Of some interest in this document, and other documents of the era, is the appearance of names that recur in the family history in Greene County and of some that also appear in the later movement to Missouri. The land described in this deed was transferred down through the family for many years and some of it is still owned by descendants of David Boles (1993)." This was the tract of land that Thomas Falls secured for his service in the Revolutinary War. A map of the tract is in the Illustrations to my Transcription of the Bright Hope Furnace Ledger which can be found at: http://www.kiva.net/~jeskewic/brighthope.html A.
