    3. I use Ed's book "TENNESSEE'S FIRST SETTLERS & SOLDIERS" almost every day. It is a great assist, particularly for family I have not researched yet, like relations through marriage only. Eleanor also offers to help with many queries on line, without the person asking for her direct assistance. Eleanor and Ed have been a great help to many of us. Eleanor, I'm sorry that your health is failing, and I know you still mourn your loss of Edward. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ihB.2ACI/4188 Message Board Post: I think I have just made a tiny chip in a brick wall I've been facing for ages. I am seeking anything I can find about the parents or siblings of LOUISA STUART, who was born sometime around 1832 somewhere in Tennessee. She married Alfred Church sometime in the early 1850s -- where I do not know. They lived for a while in Wilkes County, North Carolina, where Alfred was originally from. Then they settled permanently in Jackson County, Alabama. Alfred died during the Civil War, and Louisa died of 'flu or pneumonia not many years later, leaving four children, who moved in with three different families. One of those children moved in with VALENTINE and KISSIAH McCOLLUM in Bellefonte (Jackson County), Alabama. Here's the exciting chip I just made in the wall: I found out from some family trees on the web that Valentine and Kissiah (by various spellings) McCollum were both from Greene County, Tennessee, and that Kissiah's maiden name was STUART. I think it is quite likely that she was Louisa's relative. Although Kissiah was a good bit older than Louisa, it's possible that she was her sister. Or she might have been an aunt or cousin. If any of you can give me any leads in finding Louisa Stuart's family, I will be eternally grateful! -- Natalie Maynor http://www.maynor.net/Genealogy/

I have no idea who William C Reed's parents were or how he ended up Christian County KY where he met his first wife (Polly Sloan). He returned to KY to marry Polly and her brother, Alexander Sloan, came out to Cooper County MO and lived near them. My G Grandfather William S Reed: it is unknown what the S stood for, I always believed it was his grandmother Sloan. Maybe it is the Steward or Stewart that you have mentioned. 1. [TNGREENE] Cumberland Gap, TN/Roberts line
    2. Regarding birthplace of a John Roberts in Cumberland Gap, TN. If a John Roberts was born in Cumberland Gap then his family preceeded Daniel Boone into the Wilderness. Cumberland Gap area was mapped in 1750 but the frontier was soon closed because of the hostilities of the French and Indian War. It was not until 1775 that Daniel Boone and his party ventured out into the Wilderness Road area. History does say that several families, most often those of longhunters, were living in Upper East TN by the mid-1770's but they were few and far between. That would be the area around present day Elizabethton, TN. And, there could have been some NC Tory families hiding out in the woods. Claiborne County is the TN county were the Gap is located. It is highly unlikely there are public records in Tazewell, the county seat, supporting births, deaths, marriages from this very early period prior to statehood. The state archives in Nashville may have them if they exist. I'm a Roberts descendant and looking for the parents of the John Roberts from Greene County that married Rebecca Susong. He was born about 1790 and lived all his adult life as far as I can tell in Greene County before dying there in 1870. He's buried in the Susong Memorial Cemetery. Judy

    3. I can help with A.M. Nancy Roberts, daughter of John and Phebe, married (first)Abraham Kirtley in Greene County. They had one child, Washington. She then married Adam Buller. They had three sons: Arthur Severe, my ggrandfather, Alfred Madison and John Valentine. William Roberts and James Valentine Roberts moved to Clinton County, Ohio, about 1820. John, Phebe, and most of their families and marry-ins moved to Logan County, Ohio, about 1830. William and James Roberts moved to Logan County from Clinton County. Claiborne County was not organized until 1801. It was formed from Hawkins and Grainger. Hawkins was chopped out of Washington District formed in 1777, Tennessee's first legal entity.
