    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Sexton White Horton Martin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4191.2 Message Board Post: Hi Cousin Jean! I lost your email address when I changed computers (and email addresses also -- formerly janmim@aol.com and jleehunt1@aol.com). As you may recall, I descend from Miller Sexton and his first wife, Lucy Deford to whom he was married in Wake Co. NC, through son Henry who married Martha Horton, d/o Isaac Horton and Margaret Martin. I know there is some question over whether her name is Lucy DeFord or Lucy D. Ford, however, I obtained a copy of the marriage bond and James DeFord's name is also written once as James D. Ford, so I am leaning towards DeFord. Recently our cousin, Vicki Peterson, obtained a copy of Peter Sexton's will, probated in Moore Co. NC in 1817, but written in Chatham Co. 1809. And it looks like he is our Miller's father. He names children Miller, Absalom, Allen, Clary, Elizabeth, Linsville.Granddaughter Sally Carpenter. Exec: wife Elizabeth and John Rollings. Wit: John Partridge and John Rollings. Filed August Term 1817 in Moore Co., NC; executors refused to qualify, administration granted to Gilford (sic) Carpenter and Miler (sic) Sexton. Proven by oath of John Partridge. Absalom and Allen are right there with Miller in the 1830 Greene Co. TN census, though the name has been transcribed as Sinton. I viewed the original census, and one of them is pretty clearly Sexton..but oh well. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/8214/221_236.html#PAGE_233 SINTON, ABSOLAM, 233 --- 121001 - 100001 SINTON, ALLEN, 233 --- 010001 - 10101 SINTON, MILLER, 233 --- 1101001 - 011001 So we know Miller's father. His mother was most likely Elizabeth Smith as there is a marriage bond in Wake Co. for Peter Sexton and [unreadable] Smith. There is no date, but given its number the Wake Co. marriage book says in the reign of Governor Caswell. I have been looking at some early Wake Co. NC records, and those for Johnston Co., Wake's parent and have found that Absalom Sexton was there as early as 1749, and John Sexton shows up in records just a handful of years later. An early settlers Wake Co. map places them on the northeastern corner of Wake close to Granville (not down by Chatham/Cumberland). I would hazard that Absalom or John is Peter's father, possibly grandfather and father respectively. Johnston and Wake Co. deeds need to be reviewed more carefully, as do the Pasquotank NC records. I look forward to hearing from you. As a footnote, I am sorry to report that Moore Co. NC is a burned county! Regarding White, if Nancy was living in Greene Co. in 1830, these are the other White families from the 1830 census. Nancy should have been recorded as 20 (fifth column) according to the census taker's rules, which means she would be in the household of Blumn (??) White, the only household with parents and possible 20 year old daughter. If the census taker didn't follow the rules (ages as of July 1), then she could possibly be in Joseph or Richard's households. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/8214/indextz.html WHITE, ABSM., 198 --- 0001 - 0001 WHITE, ABSOLUM, 214 --- 11001 - 00001 WHITE, BLUMN., 213 --- 000010001 - 100010001 WHITE, DANL., 232 --- 221001 - 00001 WHITE, ELI, 198 --- 00001 - 01001 WHITE, FRED, 205 --- 0011001 - 001001 WHITE, JOSEPH, 184 --- 0223001 - 211101 WHITE, RICHD, 209 --- 0110001 - 211101 I understand another researcher has said she was the daughter of an Abraham White, who I don't find here.. With my best regards, Janet Hunter

There's a set price for the whole set but if you join the Greene County Genealogical Society as I did (and I don't live in TN and many other members don't either), you get all future issues with your membership. But if you are only looking for a certain issue and know who is in it, then you can just order that issue.
