Surnames: Logan Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4204.1.2.1.3 Message Board Post: One thing that puzzles me still is this. If my David Logan is the son of the David Logan who owned the fruching mill, why did he leave? He would have been the oldest son, and well in line to get the family business and plantation when his father died. Why would he run off with his new wife to Ohio, where he didn't own any land, and later head west to Illinois to buy 160 acres, and then take them to Terre Haute Indiana? I've gotten the feeling from my research on David Logan that he marched to the beat of a different drummer. Some clue of that is in where he is buried. New Harmony near Terre Haute was a Utopian settlement. It still exists today. Any answers?

If we can believe he was born in 1782, it is very possible he was the son of a Revolutionary War soldier who received bounty land in Tennessee. Has anyone ever checked the original land deed that was in David's name in Greene County? Who did he receive it from? Doug

It was the first I had heard about the marriage bonds with the McPherons. It took me a while, but I finally found the pedigree that Nan Curran had sent me. There is a David Logan as son, but he born much much later in 1844. I remember when I received this that I asked her very pointedly if there was any possibility that the son was misindentified, but she didn't seem to think so. Some things in this pedigree don't add up. One is that he supposedly has a daughter a year after he is dead in 1849, at which time he would have been almost 68. I'd like you to compare the pedigree below with your own records and tell me what you think. 1 David Logan b: May 23, 1782 d: May 4, 1849 Greene Co. Two of Joseph's daughters (Mary & Martha) married James & John GOODFELLOW. These names and dates seem to fit the other post. As to Census, we know some people were missed--drat! ;-) Would be happy to share info I've collected!

There are hundreds of records in Greene County rerelating to him. Unfortunately, his early life is a complete mystery. He seems to just "appear" in Greene County. The 1830 census may give an idea of the number of younger males in David's household. I looked, but could not find a marriage for your David. One thing that makes me think for sure that your David is in fact David "Jr." is the close ties the wills, marriages, and court records indicate David Logan, Sr. had with the McPherron family. He was security on nearly all the McPherron marriage bonds through from about 1818 until 1840. It is certainly not a stretch for his son to have married a McPherron. Doug

Surnames: Logan, McPheron Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4204.1.2 Message Board Post: Doug, You had asked me about the census data from 1880. Unfortunately David Logan died in 1868. He is buried at New Harmony Cemetery, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. His wife, Elizabeth McPheron, died in 1883 and is also buried there. Her line is much easier to follow than David's. All I know with certainty is that David Logan was born in Tennessee, most probably in Greene County. He met Elizabeth there, married her, and then had his first child with her in 1834 in Ohio. He had a total of 5 children in Allen County, Ohio, then moved to Clark Co, Illinois in 1841 and had another two children. Then he moved the family to Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana by 1860. My mother thought that David Logan and Priscilla Woolsey were the parents, but I have no way of knowing how she came to that conclusion other than proximity.
