Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4215.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Very interesting. I haven't actually done any Malone research myself, but my John Malone's daughter Polly's last name was spelled Melone in several places as were others--and 3 Malone/Melone sisters married 3 Reynolds brothers in Greene Co. TN. And Reynolds was spelled Runnels at the time and later corrected to Reynolds. I either read it somewhere or a Malone researcher told me that Maloney and Malone were of the same family. And I did know about the O' being dropped from on front of the name. I forget what county John Malone and his father John came from; I have it somewhere in my notes, but there's a Malone castle there which once belonged to the family. Greeneville had quite a few Malones, many of whom were related to me. I presume you have been to Usgenweb.org and used to Archives Search Engine to see what you can find by the name of Maloney?

Surnames: Maloney Malone Melone Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4215.1.1 Message Board Post: Maloney is definitely a separate name in Irish genealogy, not just a mis-spelling of Malone. Maloney is an "Americanization" of O'Molony. Molony is from the Gaelic OMaoldhomaigh, which means "devoted to Sundays" i.e. devoted to the church. Molony is a County Clare name, where they were chiefs of Tulla, with the seat in Kiltannon. see "Learned Families of Thomond", also "Clans and Families of Ireland and Scotland", also "Your Irish Ancestors", also "Burkes Guide to Irish Country Houses". The ironic thing about this little corner of the world is that there are Malone, Melone, and Maloney all in one county at one time.

    3. There was no census in 1812. The census records are every 10 years, there are tax lists only. Locating a copy of David's will is possible the only way you'll be able to locate the children. You might check Washington Co., TN for records. I can't remember offhand when that area went from Washington Co., VA to Washington Co., TN. It was also known as the Watagua area. Good Hunting. Patti

I am trying to get a copy of the will myself. I think this confirms that David Logan was the son of David Logan. Another confirmation will be the 1812 census if we can find that. We should have all of the children accounted for at this point. There is other good news as well. I think I have solved the mystery of David Logan Sr. William Logan purchased 600 acres of land on the north bank of the Nolachuckee River from a Revolutionary War soldier from North Carolina around 1790. Based on what I have found, I think William comes from North Carolina or South Carolina. Stay in touch and thanks. Doug

Give me a few days or so and I will see if I can locate the information again (it was in a book) and will post it and the source here (If I do locate it again). At one of the libraries they have a book on Sullivan Co. Tennessee that has many actual land deed records in it among numerous other things (don't remember the actual name of it, but I can find out). They also have a large collection on microfilm of Tennessee wills, probate records etc.(the ones not destroyed during the Civil War). This is all at the big main library downtown though and I don't go down there very often, maybe 2 or 3 times a year. The genealogy section there takes up almost an entire floor of the library, so when I do go I plan to spend most of the day there. Gotta go for now will lookup that info and get back to ya here soon Sarah

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/3728.1.2.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Hey Sarah, Naming children for other family members was quite common in those days, so there are a lot of given names repeated. Our 1801 Thomas also had children named James (Martha's), Hannah (Martha's) and Isaac (Charlotte's) among his 11 children. Cousin Lyn's genealogy goes back to Willem Tietsoort, born about 1600 in Stafford, England, although clearly of Dutch ancestry. His son, Abraham Willemszen Tietsoort died in New Amsterdam (now New York). From there descendants in Cousin Lyn and my husband's line moved to North Carolina, then Kentucky, then West Virginia (maybe only the state lines moved), and then Tennessee. I am curious about your reference to seeing information at the library about the suit between Martha Titsworth and Mary Jane Titsworth. Which library were you using and what types of sources were you using? Were you able to find court records, including land records and probate records without going to TN? Regards, Cousin Shirley
