My reference was the North Carolina Land Grants in Tennessee, 1778-1791 by Burgner. I don't know exactly what they were using for reference. The numbers in front of the Grants I had assumed were from the actual Land Grants. I would have to check the actual NC Land Grants to find if William Logan had his application for his RW pension rejected there. The 1810 Greene Co. Tax list has David Logan in Capt. Olinger's Company. A William and David Logan show up in Blount Co.Court Records 1808-1811I don't have this resource however. There was also a William Logan on the Williamson Co. 1810 Tax list, and appointed JP in Williamson Co. in 1811. The Census schedule for 1790 (Western Territory) TN was burned ,as was the 1810 except for Rutherford Co.

Also, my cousin, Mary Reynolds, is married to a Malone, but they are up in years. I don't know his parents yet. I can call the Casteel gal to see if she knows other Malones in the area and to get the Weems' names who own it. If enough interest can be generated, both in Greene Co. and elsewhere, in saving the cemetery, you will meet lots of cousins with recipes, no doubt. As for those garden gloves, this is much too big a project for just gloves as one can not even set foot inside the cemetery because of briar bushes. I think it is an acre of land and you get there by going into a large pasture full of cows and then up a hill on very uneven ground. The gate to the pasture was not locked last year. Since Mary Polly West's husband, William Malone, was the brother of my great grandmother, Mary Polly who m. Jesse Reynolds, and brother of Anna who m. Jesse's bro. Reuben Reynolds, and brother of Betsey who m. David Reynolds--this makes us cousins!!! Do you have anything on children of Anna and Betsey? Also I can give you more on Jesse's sons but don't know who his 3 daughters were. I would like the Brown family website as my maternal grand- mother was Mary Catherine Brown, dtr of John Brown and Annie Ford about whom I know nothing.
Can someone tell me where I may found a copy of the book "Southside, a book on the south side of Greene County? by Goldne Fellers Burgner.......Thanks Sandy Wainwright
Is anyone on the list related to Dr. John H. King? He was born in 1836 d. 1901 in Greene County. He married Margaret Ayers in 1859. They had two sons, W.F. King and Elijah Sterling King. Elijah married Nora Hawkins Hunter. We don't know what happened to W.F. King. Nora is the daughter of Dr. Joseph Hawkins. We are working on this family as a project because no one in Greene County seems to know much about them, or not that we've found. Dr. King is buried in a private cemetery in the Galbreath Commuinty which is considered as Mosheim today. Close to Mt. Sianai Church. The cemetery has been vandalized and we'd like to be able to do something for this cemetery. We think there is a condicil in the land deed that states whoever buys the land, they must provided upkeep, if not, then it is to be deeded to the county. So far, we haven't found the deed. Anyone related? Renaee
Hi, Does anyone know what the legal age was to be a witness on a will? I notice that in most cases, the wording will say that a child must reach the age of 21 to inherit some things, such as money or exeutorship of the estate if the wife should die, etc. Is 21 the legal age at this time? Thanks, Renaee

HHEEYYY!!!! Your daughter could use the cookbook as a fundraiser for the cemetery!!!!!!!!!! What a great opportunity!! and to make a before and after notebook for her class.... Do you know what the state laws are concerning cemeteries, in IL there are laws that if the cemetery is abandoned than some state or county organization provides maintenance, of course they are not going to offer unless someone asks. I would start with calling the town "city planner" I recently called 3 citys in MO concerning some local cemeteries and each city transferred me to the "city planner" to get cemetery info.... Good luck and I took forward to reading your updates. And possibly they are not aware that they are related, and may not even care. Someone on the internet has just suggested that we contact the 'city planner' to find out what the laws are regarding cemetery maintenance, saying that in some states if a cemetery is abandoned that some state or county organi- zation provides maintenance. This is not true in Greene Co. I talked to Don Miller at Cox library who tells me that there are many old cemeteries in the county that are neglected and there's no way to pay for maintenance. In some states there are groups who set up trust funds to provide maintenance, and on some countries, relatives are required to pay a fee for maintenance, but as the descen- dents die or move away, it becomes a big problem My relative, Buford Reynolds, did a find job of listing cemeteries in his book, and noted many unmarked and neglected graves. His work became the basis for many updated lists and this is how we know the Malones were buried in Malone graveyard on Casteel Farm. It is on Union Road near the Union Freeway Church and Union is off of Old Baileyton Road.

There's something far more important than your daughter's recipe project that needs the attention of Malone descendents. It is the Malone Graveyard in Greene Co. TN which used to be on Casteel farm which has now been sold to a Weems family. I was in Greeneville last summer and wanted to find John Malone's grave and a Casteel gal took me to the farm. On top of a hill in the middle of a pasture was an overgrown patch of bushes, trees, thorns and no visible grave markers of any kind. You can't even walk into the cemetery. The Casteel gal told me that some years ago she begged for money from descendents of those buried there and managed to collect $1000 and she sent me pic- tures of the new barbed wire fence and new gate she put up, but it had fallen down and cattle had been getting in. Malone descendents need to organize and raise money to put an iron fence around the cemetery which is where John Malone Sr. and John Malone Jr. are buried and many other Malones and Reynolds, and other relatives. I live in Illinois on a fixed income so I cannot help. I'm told that since the Malones and others buried there were in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, that they are entitled to special grave markers, but as of last summer no graves could be seen. Could your daughter make this her project instead of recipes? And have an American flag fly there also?

If we could get contributions from others who descended from John Malone, Sr., she could have a really unique visual aide and the Malones would have an interesting addition to family history. If you are of this line (and I know there are a bunch out there) would you be willing to share a recipe or two, and maybe a family story, photos and also state your hometown and relationship to the Maryland Malone group? If this comes together, I'd be more that happy to provide copies to you when it all comes together. If I get a really good response, I could possibly send manuscript off to a cookbook publisher (like school fundraisers) and take orders. otherwise it may just be in form of a Word document. Our line is John Malone Sr., John Malone Jr., William Malone, Levi Malone, Thomas Daniel Malone (2nd batch of kids), George Malone (my grandfather) -- John was in revolutionary war - Maryland area - granted land in Sullivan County, Tennessee, by North Carolina in 1783 any contributions would be greatly appreciated and could be a neat addition to our family tree cobbc@dr-inc.com (can't accept hotmail emails) Candice Malone Cobb
