Date and place of birth unknown, son of Anthony Kelly, who died in Greene County, TN about 1812. Married Dec. 6, 1796 in Greene County to Margaret Johnson, children: Elizabeth (Mrs. John Houston), James, Peggy, William, Samuel, Ann, and Anthony Kelly. Anthony Kelly's Inventory of Estate is found in the Greene Co., TN probate records. Family History Library film #0944384. William Kelly who died 1819 also has a inventory of estate in the Greene Co., probate records. One line in the settlement says: "To John Houston who intermarried with Elizabeth Kelly daughter of the deceased....." Other children mentioned in this inventory are: James, Peggy, Samuel, James, and Anthony. This is also found on Family History Library film #0944384. The title of this film says it is for the years 1828-1854, but I found Anthony Kelly's records on it and he died in 1812.

VA. Descendents of Christian Bowers and Abraham Pitsenberger appear in the records of Greene Co. TN along with my ancestor John Welty. The name next to Caspar Walty on the ship St. Andrew in 1750 is Ulrich Bisserker which may be Bitsberger an early form of Pitsenberger. Waelty and Buetsberger names appear in the church records in Rieschweiler Germany in 1711 and 1725. An Ulrich Pitsberger family appears in church records in York Co. PA in 1751. I have been doing area searches of church records in northern Alsace and southwest Germany hoping to find baptism records of these three individuals. Several Walty/Welty families and Bauer families appear in records in northern Alsace (west of where the Neas family came from) in the early 1700s in the Wintersbourg and Waldhambach area near Dehlingen where Hans Bitzberger appears. The Johannes Duessinger/Deisinger family of Shenandoah Co. VA is from Waldhambach. The Peter Schindeldecker family also appears in the records at Ingweiler north of Saverne in northern Alsace. Christian Bowers married a Schindeldecker from Hinterwiedenthal Germany. In 1754 on the ship Neptune appears the name Christian Baur. Also on board was Nicolaus Ensminger from Drulingen near Waldhambach. Could this be the Christian Bowers of Shenadoah Co. VA? A Christian Walty was a bapt. sponsor for a Nicolaus Ensminger in 1725 in this area. Also Abraham Pitsenberger had land transactions with a Henry Bauer in Shenandoah Co. VA and a Maria Barbara Bauer was a bapt. spnsors for a child of Ulrich and Anna Buetzeburger in York Co. PA in 1756. Does anyone have any other info on connections between these families?

That would be pretty close to the time it was the state of Franklin. He married Abigail Lackey Jan 19, 1820, according to the marriage listings I have found for Greene County (She is also in the Monroe County KY 1830 Census, and in the same household as Anthony) . If my guess is right, one of his sons was George Washington Smith, who was born in TN in 1824 (Monroe County KY 1850 census). I am looking for confirmation of the link between Anthony and George, and also for their progenitors.

I have some letters my GGGrandmother Mary Jane Harlow Davis Walker wrote in Nov. of 1916. She wrote it to her son George Seigal Davis (my GGrandfather that married America STOUT). Their daughter Della Jane DAVIS married Charles George HOWARD. (my Grandparents) She wrote the letters from Greenville, TN. The following names are mentioned: Joe (better be making preparations to meet his God) Ellen HOWARD &Bert WALKER (have been to see me since I wrote you) Joe (has been sick. He was talking over the phone and just fell like he was dead) Aunt Mat (looks more feeble than sister Mary) We were invited to Bruce Larues (?) yesterday. They have an elegant home. Taylor, Lottie, Clemarrie,(?) Hedrick they look like Bessie Kids. Aunt Annie, Sister, Brother Harris &I were invited to Walkers yesterday. Walkers have raised their house full two stories. Jonnie took us all over town to the national cemetery and out to Tusculum. Bessie is going to give a swell dinner tomorrow. Taylor &Joe are bald. Your aunt Aunt Annie is almost bald and what hair she has is white as snow. I'm invited to Joe's Sunday to dinner, next week to Mrs. Willis &Mrs. (looks like Lemmons or Larnons? Susan looks like natural as does Fred Fox Frank is not here Merman &Harrison &George are here. Anna &Francis (?) are both married. John Eads (married has 5 children, all of them are dead, but Mary and John. Willis. Chester lives with Taylor. He is a good steady man. Imogene teaches school. I like Bessie Roe's husband, awfully nice to me. He is devoted to her children. Marie is a perfect little lady. Haynes (Waynes) looks just like his Grandpa Heaynes. Clifford McInturf (?) is a postal clerk. Charlie runs a paper here. Carroll works in Bruce Larnes insurance office, all married. Jim is selling medicine. Brother Harris and sister are going home Saturday. I'm going to stay till the 16th, then Annie and I will go to Knoxville, stay all night there and down to Sisters. Unless you write me right away address me at: R.? D. # 4 Loudon, Tennessee. Syddie's husband is a postman, gets a hundred dollars a month. Lawrence still has the restless nature. He is not at all satisfied in this country. I would not be surprised anytime for him to go back west. He has a nice wife and it would most break his mother's heart. I want him to stay here while she lives. She is so old and feeble, but you know Lawrence and he has never been satisfied here. Bessies husband would make as fine a Blacksmith as you. She says she would not live there because of the cost of living. Corn a dollar a bushel and pay is 75cents a day for shucking the corn. Now....is there anyone on here that can relate to any of the above??? If so I would LOVE to hear from you!!! Rebecca
