Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/645.1 Message Board Post: Rich: Been doing some studying again on the Peter Ricker family and I think we have another mixup. According to Peter's will which was written in 1813, Eve was already mentioned as being married to a Smithers. Therefore the Eve that is marrying in 1822 to Peter Smithers is not a daughter of Peter and Peggy Ricker, but probably a daughter of one of his sons. OR it could be if she was just marrying a brother or cousin of her first husband.

    3. Jim, Try this URL for the library: http://www.ggcpl.org/ Off of it, are the hours. Most important however is the Elmer Cox Collection, which is housed across the street in a separate house - there's a picture of it on the website so it won't be hard to find. Right on Main St., almost opposite the brick library itself. Sorry, I can't help about motel - we stay with relatives - or the courthouse either. But the Cox collection, and its director, Don Miller, are really helpful. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4295 Message Board Post: Need any and all info for Samuel Hays. LDS lists parents as William & Abigail Hays - with no source. Cemetery listing for wife, Elizabeth, gives a middle initial of M. (no burial info for Samuel, do not know when or where he died. She is buried in Dixon Chapel E.U.B. (Methodist) cemetery.) Samuel m 9 Aug 1832 to Elizabeth Gray (b 27 Apr 1799 d 11 Nov 1867) Known children are: Catherine Clemmons Hays b 22 June 1833 m George Pickering Mary Ann Hays b 13 Aug 1835 m Andrew J.Brumley Elizabeth Hays b 15 Mar 1837 d 10 Feb 1845 Robert C.G. Hays b ca 1839 (he may have gone to Texas no real proof as yet.) He was executor of mother's will in 1867. Other than marriage, Census records are only sources I have found showing Samuel's existence; he is listed in 1850 and 1860. The 1830 Census shows a Samuel with a wife and 2 children. There is also a marriage record in 1826 for a Samuel and Nancy McMackin. This could be the 1830 Family. However, if this is the same Samuel, what happened to the first wife and children?? He didn't m Elizabeth until 1832 and there does not appear to be any children that were not born to them! Hoping someone out there knows something about this elusive ancestor of mine. Terry

    3. Jim, Which Browns are you looking for? There were two, three, or more Brown families in Greene Co. during that period. I don't know much about the ones who lived in Greeneville itself, but to the best of my knowledge, they were the descendants of Alexander Brown, whose son is said to be Joseph Rodgers Brown m. Elizabeth Alexander. My Browns lived in the county, near Cross Anchor (Roaring Fork area) and descend from Jotham Brown m. Margaret Maloney. I also note that Lewis A. Brown m. Mary Ann Hull 1/4/1859. Lewis appears to be a son of Aaron Brown and had a brother William K. Brown. If any of these ring a bell, I'll be glad to provide you what information I have on them. 3. Hi ! I am in agreement about the T. Elmer Cox library... Go see Don Miller, he knows everything that you want to know !!! They have all the old court records there ! I will scan you the pamphlets of T.Elmer and the Greene Co. Gene. Soc... And, THE place to stay is the Jameson Inn... but, you must make the reservation online... It will be less than ½ of the real cost, as if you were to just show up on their doorstep... You must ask for a smoking room if that is what you want, my son and one daughter smoke and one daughter and me, don't... The "room" has a refrigerator and a microwave and a hair dryer and a coffee pot, and TV w/remote, of course... When you go to the site, it will show you everything that is available, and photos of the rooms... http://dps1.travelocity.com/hotspromo.ctl?prop_id=54465 There is a new restaurant about 50' in front of the Jameson... It has steaks to shrimp... fairly reasonable... Me and my 40ish "children" had a ball !!! It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip... We rented a mini-van and off we went !!! We found a cousin to show us the McCoy Settlement property... He gave me 2 canning jars that were out of the root cellar !!! I was in hog-heaven !!! They are in a prominent place in my home... If you have property that you want to see, ask Don Miller who owns it now... then, look in the phone book and see if they will allow you to go on the property... If you ask, it is almost always a yes... I'll scan those pamphlets to you, now... 3. Hi Jim, The Elmer Cox Archive in Greeneville is a MUST see. I think you could spend days just there. Very helpful people there as well. Not really sure of the hours. I live in Jacksonville, Fl. I've been there twice and each time was just not long enough. Really old records there. There are many hotels in Greeneville. It is quite a big city really but still with a Historic area. Sure you can find something on line.
