At the time, I didn't recall ever seeing that before & wondered if it was the same but not having information with dates, etc., handy, & being involved in searching for something else (probably a Phillips-Register connection) I never did get back around to it. So when you mentioned that marriage, I knew it existed but couldn't remember the date. I went back & checked & your date of 1819 (14 Jan) matches. Now, if my 1812 birthdate for Royal m. Betsy is correct, there would be way too much age difference for this to be the same. So I think you're right about being two different people. With Royal being such an unusual name (to me anyway) I think it seems pretty likely that they probably were related someway. I guess it's back where I started until I can get more informatio! > n. I'm still looking for parents, siblings, etc. on Malinda Phillips b.ca 1823 so if you find her in your line somewhere, let me know. I just found the information regarding BLAIR/TADLOCK today so I have not had much of a chance to research it. I just checked the Familysearch.org and found this information but my cousin has the father of Nancy Tadlock to be a Thomas Tadlock and there is no spouse listed. I am not sure now as to what is correct or not. Now Nancy Tadlock was supposedly born about 1810 and that would make Jane Blair Tadlock in her 50's when she was born. I have not heard anything regarding PADFIELD. I probably have the wrong TADLOCK to begin with but I was going by what was listed at the Family History Center website.

I found Archibald Trail on worldconnect, but his siblings did not include a Sarah Elizabeth. His parents were from Me or CT, a James Trail if I recall correctly.According to another posting this Enoch Ward was from Augusta Co VA. Havent had time to research that yet either.but plan on doing that next few days. Enoch's Wife's name was Sarah on 1850 Census, but still not sure of the Trail connection, Thanks, Ray

I have been meaning to e-mail you - I now believe the James Trail & Archibald Trail listed on the 1850 Greene County census were brothers & sons of the James Trail in the 1834 will I mentioned earlier. Archibald's daughter, Sarah, 16 yrs. old on the 1850 census matches the Sarah (b. 1834) which I believe you showed had married a John Ward in 1851. Could that John Ward have been the John Ward, age 25,son of Enoch Ward listed on 1850 census? Still leaves the question of parentage of Sarah, wife of Enoch Ward.

There is an 1820 census for Middle and West TN, but it is missing for East TN. This I know because all my TN ancestors were in East TN. (^_^) But, land records started when a county was formed, and often survived courthouse fires, because the tax collector would grab them on his way out the front door. Or, if they did burn, a request was sent out to re-establish the land records, supposedly so there would be a clear title recorded when they decided to sell that land.

You mention graves and wills, have you tried one of my favorite sources -- land records? The 1870 census shows Andrew owns land, see when he buys first piece of land. Check when final sale is made, if he died in Greene Co, TN land records will show all heirs signing off to give clear title to next buyer. Index will name only one person, then "et al" will come after that name, it means "and others". It also is a good source to pick up married names of female members of the family. On the 1840 census for Sullivan Co, TN, is there anyone old enough to be parent of Andrew? Again, check land records, does Andrew show up as an heir? If his parent died after he left the county, he might give power of attorney to someone locally to collect his share of the estate. Pwr-of-atty records are filed in land record books, too. Did Andrew buy or sell any land in Sullivan Co, TN? Watch for the witnesses to transactions, often wife's family will be included as witnesses to insure her welfare in transactions. Check Sistler's 6 volume set of early TN marriages, see if you find marriage for Andrew and Ellen. Not all counties are included, but most of them are in there. Happy Hunting (^_^)
