The father, Emanuel Babb, is listed in the 1900 census as a widower with three children, William (15), Margaret (8), and Martha (6). He must have remarried shortly after the census because in 1910 he is married to a Laura Reynolds and living in Colfax, Washington with his new family (5 kids then, 11 by 1930). The 1900 census lists him as living in Civil District No. 16, Greene County, TN. What city is that? Does anyone know any more about Emanuel and his family? Unfortunately without the 1890 census I am stumped! Becky

Hi, List! I think it would be helpful if we put surnames in the Subject/Header line whenever applicable. That way, it's so easy to scan messages, either in your list of messages or in the digest list, and see if there's someone discussing your family. I think you might have a lot more *hits* if you let people know up front the names that you are writing about. This would mean that instead of just hitting *Reply to*, you would have to either change or add to the Subject line, but that's not too hard to do. Subjects like "Help" or "Searching for Grandfather" or "Greene County" are things we all have more or less in common, anyway. Just an idea. Don't mean to offend. Good rooting! Ellen Blackstone
I would appreciate any information anyone has on Andrew Dobkins (also spelled Dobbins in some census records) who married Joanna Woolsey (also sometimes spelled Woollery) and lived in Greene County. They had several daughters--only one of whom married; and I think, one son. I am particularly interested in any information which would indicate who Andrew's father is, as well as what happened to the son. Carol Dobkins Keith

Could this be another name for Seaton... I have a William Patton Seaton that was killed Dec. 16, 1864 in Parrottsville, Cocke County, Tennessee from Greene County, Tennessee. By the way...Greeneville is spelled with an e after the Green.... So the subject should read: GreenEville, Greene County, Tennessee Thelma Waddell Wisecarver PS. William Patton Seaton was my grandmother, *Laura Emeline Brown Ricker's uncle. William Patton and my great-grandmother, *Nancy Ann Seaton {Widow Davis {whose 1st husband John Davis was killed the same time as her brother}Brown were brother and sister, and their parent's were: *Andrew Jackson Seaton and *Susanna Wilhoit Seaton. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 2:17 PM Subject: Re: [TNGREENE] Greenville, Greene County, Tennessee > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Sitton > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/4520.2.1.2.1.2.1 > > Message Board Post: > > > Hi Leah, > > I do not have any more info on these Sitton individuals, but I did find one web site that details William Sitton's war service: > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~txward/descendants_of_john_jr_sitton.htm > > Best wishes! > > ---Mark > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Reynolds, Kent Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ihB.2ACI/5084.1 Message Board Post: I don't know if we have a fit with a Thomas Reynolds, but a Thomas Reynolds married a Martha Kent in 1826 Greene Co. Martha appeared to be the daughter of Peter and Sarah Kent who were living with John Kent (their son) just a door or two away from William and Thomas Reynolds in the 1830 census. In Sarah Kent's Will made in 1842 she bequeathed a small sum to a William Reynolds, whom she identified as her grandson. There was no mention of daughter named Martha in her Will, so we assume she died. Do you suppose that your John Reynolds was John William, or some variation of those names? Proximity of these families suggests a relationship.

Three histories have been written about the Conference. The first one was written by R. N. Price, a Holston minister and member of the faculty of Emory & Henry. It is a five-volume history entitled Holston Methodism: From Its Origin to the Present Time ( Nashville , Tenn. ; Dallas , Texas ; Richmond , Va. : Publishing House of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, 1904-1914). The Reverend Isaac Patton Martin wrote the second history under the title Methodism in Holston (Knoxville, Tenn.: The Methodist Historical Society of Holston Conference, 1945). The Reverend Robert L. Hilten (E&H class of 1943) wrote the most recent history entitled Pillar of Fire: The Drama of Holston Methodism in a Changing World (Johnson City, Tenn.: Commission on Archives and History of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, 1994). All are available through Kelly Library and through one's local library via interlibrary loan. http://library.ehc.edu/holstonhistory.html keep in touch, Have a wonderful day have you seen my new book? look below for link Jim Rader [email protected] www.rader.org 916-366-6833 Casper Rader 1732-1812 Wythe county, Virginia by James L Rader The first 3 generations of Casper Rader's Descendants.
