Dear List, Does anybody out there connect with an Aaron Hughes who shows as age 75 in 1870 census, Greene Co. TN? His PO is Camp Creek. Dist 22. If somebody does connect with this man, do you have any info of connections to a Johnson family? Trying to track down my elusive Johnsons. One of them had a son, Aaron Hughes Johnson, b. 1838 GA. Many thanks, Judy in TX

**************************************
See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Tennessee was actually N. C. until it became a state. The counties that existed then, that are now part of Tennessee were Washington, Sullivan, Greene, and Davidson. They pretty much covered all of the eastern 1/2 of Tennessee, (or more). Greene Co., NC as it is today, never became Greene Co., TN. You can find this kind of information on www.genweb.org<http://www.genweb.org/> , then click on the state you need. For those who live a distance away, Greene County has had a bad forest fire for the last few days currently 80% is contained but about 2000 acres have already burned. It's been extremely dry here and rain may not come for a few more days. There is an article in today's Greeneville Sun for those who would like to read more.
Can anyone tell me where in Greene County (near what roads, in what townships etc) the land mentioned below might be located today? "Holley's Creek, nearby was Oliphant and Morrow's mills. Not far away was Buckingham's Ford on the Nolichuckey River". Dated 1806. I think this area is probably under water today. What date is the earliest known map for this region? Does anyone know of an on-line source for an early Greene Co., TN map? I am working with the TVA now,but don't really know what to ask for.... Thanks, Teresa
