Don't know who Jacob Smith's parents were. Found he was in CW 1862-65 from Graysburg and his wife Nancy lived in Rheatown, TN. My gf was William Lewis Smith 12/10/1861 died 14 Feb 1940, buried at Rheatown cemetery along with his wife Lucindia Moyers Dotson Smith who died in June, 1908. William married Lucinda in July 1892. Nancy Bennett was born in Greene Co TN in 1837, her father was PM Bennett (1807) SC and moved to Tenn in 1835, left for Greene (Springfield) Missouri with wagon train in 1850. Died in 1880 and is buried in Springfield cemetery. PM's wife was Sarah Kelsey and she died in 1876. Thats is all the info I can come up with, many dead ends. My Great-Grandfather was Pettibone Herman Mitchell (b. 1883-1960). He is buried in Black Oak cemetary in Anderson County. From the research I've done his father's name was Henry and born about 1844 in Greene County. I don't have a name for his father, but I have a name for his grandfather. Thomas was his name and he was born in about 1783. His children were Emeline(b. abt. 1820), James (b. abt. 1825), Margaret Jane (b. 1826), and Elbert Mitchell. I have a copy of their marriage license. Mary Jane Lou's father was Ezekiel Low and Eliz,according to the 1850 census. However I'm not sure that is Ezekiel and Elizabeth Collier. I have a copy of their marriage license and they were married april 1 1837. If the Ezekiel Low of the 1850 census was 26 years old. That would make him being born 1824. If that is correct then he would have been 13 years in 1837. Pretty young to get married. I'm still working on it. Who was your grandfather? Juanita Christine Barkley Womack, b. 9/20/1907 at Wallace, Washington County, VA and died in Los Gatos, CA on June 13, 2007. Juanita Barkley Womack was the daughter of William Burgess Barkley and Achsa Martin Hunt. William B. Barkley was b. 12/20/1862 Limestone near Jonesborough, TN and d. 8/31/1931 at Bristol, TN. Achsa Martin Hunt was b. 11/30/1869 at Morning Star near Jonesborough, TN and d. 7/08/1928 at Wallace, Washington County, VA. William and Achsa Barkley lived from 1891 to 1898 at Limestone, TN and then moved to Wallace near Bristol, VA. After the death of Achsa in 1928, William Barkley moved to Bristol, TN. Note the city of Bristol is divided within both the state of VA and the state of TN. Juanita Barkley married Edmund Lenwood Womack April 22, 1931 in Washington, D. C. Juanita earned her AA degree from Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, VA. in 1925. She also attended Peabody College in Bristol, TN. Juanita moved to Washington, D.C. in 1927 and lived there until 1968 when she moved with her husband to Sarasota, Florida. She has been a resident of Los Gatos, CA since 2001. Juanita retired with the Federal Government after working 26 years; 13 years with the IRS as a stenographer/auditor and 13 years with the Census Bureau as an accountant. Mrs. Womack is survived by her daughters Christine Morris of San Jose, California and Elizabeth Davis of Union, South Carolina; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Juanita's remains will join her husband in Sarasota, Florida.
