I think we can safely assume that his first wife Ellender Bryan died before he married the second one, probably in child birth like many in those days. Ellender only married once on 14 Nov 1833 to John Anderson and William Anderson attended the wedding so he could be John's father or brother. They applied for a license on 26 Oct 1833. You might check a 1850 census of Greene Co. for a list of their children. I don't have the data in front of me re his second marriage so I don't know right now if she died before 1850, but if she did, then it is his second wife and children you are looking for, and often the children of the first deceased wife are with the second wife. As for where I find all this stuff, lots of places--censuses, USGenWeb and its archives, cemeteries, marriage lists, etc. etc. Try going to Usgenweb.org and then to the ARchives in TN, VA, and other states and just type in the name Bryan or Anderson, or whatever and you will find a wealth of data. Also go to Rootsweb.com and do the same thing. Greene Co. TN Genealogical Society publishes the Pioneer bulletin which is well worth the money, even the back issues. And their Genealogy Librarian Don Miller is a treasurer in himself. As I said I don't know much more about Blue Drain. Where was he buried? I have an Erasmus but his middle initial is not "R"; however, it is doubtful that John Milton BROYLES is the father of your Erasmus since he, John Milton, would have been too young in 1834. When sending queries like this, it is always advisable to provide as much information as possible. (Provided you have such information.) What is usually needed is all dates and places for births, marriages, deaths; known parents, siblings, children, spouses, etc. Sometimes even knowing the surname of a childs spouse will help zero in on the parent. And dates are almost always necessary. The only John Milton BROYLES I have run across is the one I referenced above and his wife was not a RICHARDSON. Let us know if you have any more info and maybe we can help you. Regards, Sarge (George W. Durman) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have looked some today and found one post telling where he was buried but that was about it. I would surely love to know more. That is my exact family right there! Except that it's Alfred McNabb, not Albert. You said it right in a couple of posts back. But those are my family! See what I mean about the names though....Anderson, McNabb, Drain, Henderson, White, Norris, Milligan, Newcomb! Hard to trace names! But you are quoting mine exactly. David William Anderson's son, James Cleveland Anderson, is my grandfather. I have a family picture of them on my tree here on Ancestry. Alfred died sometime between 1870 and 1880. In the 1880 census, Sarah Drain McNabb was widowed and living with David William Anderson and Martha Jane McNabb, her daughter, in Greene County, Tennessee. Hazel V. Norris is really Velma Hazel Norris, my grandmother. She always went by Hazel though and on one of the censuses she was shown as Hazel V. Norris. She was born 05 Oct 1909 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am related to Alfred McNabb and Sarah Ann "Sally" Drain. Her parents are John Drain born 1790 and Sarah Henderson. They are the ones who got this whole conversation started! The thing I am interested too in finding out, is if Almira White is related in any way to this John White. She married my other Grandfather, John Anderson. I have not been able to find out who her parents are either. So that would be interesting if they were related. This side of the family is so hard to find. They all had last names that seemed to more common than my other side of the family. That makes it harder to trace, especially when they have a very popular first name to go along with it. Do you know how many John Andersons there are? My gosh! That one alone could drive me crazy! The Drain name is about the least common name, and maybe the McNabb name. But those are still hard to trace. So I thank you for your help! :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Right now let me give you the Drain marriages in Greene Co. TN Daniel Drain m. Rebecca Bryant 9 Jul 1803 John Drain m. Margaret Lane 1 Sep 1810 w John White present John Drain m. Emma Davis 23 Oct 1862 Polly Ann Drain m. John Reynolds Sr. 6 Jun 1839 Rebeckah Drain m. William Craddock 12 Oct 1813 Sally Drain m. Alfred McNabb 30 Sep 1845 Solomon Drain m. Polly Holland 3 Jun 1840 Kindness Drain m. John White 7 Jun 1803 Since most people married at age 21 unless a wife had died and it was second marriage or a husband was killed in war and it was a second marriage, we can almost figure out the ages of the above people. I would say that Kindness, Rebeckah, John and Daniel were probably related. And they could be children of John Sr. b. 1749 Va d. 18 Jan 1843 in Green Co. Ky who m. Rebecca Francher or Fancher b. 1760 Prince Georges Co. Md d. Greene Co. TN. I wonder if 'Blue' is really a nickname for something else but know that often in those days if a 'Blue' had married into the Drain line earlier that they often took the last name and made it a first name; hence, Blue Drain showing a connection between two families. It's also possible that Blue is a son of John Sr.,but I don't know as I do not actively research the Drain line. It is interesting that Alfred McNabb who married a Henderson also married Sally Drain, so I suppose that a John Drain could have married Sarah Henderson. I was just working on the Henderson line and will double check to see who Alfred married. Obviously there are two or more John Drains given the years of the marriages I just gave you. Daniel Drain was born 1780 you say and I found his marriage in 1803 to Rebecca Bryant. I do not find a James Drain who married in Greene Co. but it's possible. Kindness was b. 1783 you say and I found her marriage in 1803 making her 20 or 21. David Lewis Drain I do not have. John Drain b. 1790 is the one who m. Margaret Lane in 1810 at age 20-21. Rebecca b. 1798 is the one who m. William Craddock in 1813 making her 15, Solomon b. 1815 married Polly Holland in 1840 at 25 (and she is a relative of mine), so he was probably married before. We know that John Drain did not marry Rebecca Fancher in Greene Co. TN and there was only one Fancher marriage in Greene Co. and it was a man. To be continued.
