I have reached a dead end in research in Greene County. My family tells me that James Bartley, born about 1825 in Virginia and who married Mary/Polly Moser, is the son of Frances Bartley and Sally Good, both born in Greene County, TN. I of course seek proof. Yet I can find no actual proof of these facts. I suspect that someone has already researched these same facts and perhaps identified credible resources. I am contacting this listserve in hopes that someone will recognize my dilemna and point me in the right direction with kind assistance. If you can help, please accept my sincere thanks. I usually see her name as Anna BAWLEY in genealogy pages on the web, but I think it is probably BEWLEY. Anna was born about 1756 and married Thomas DOAN. Thomas DOAN's father John DOAN was born in Bucks Co., PA (where there are other BEWLEYs), removed to Cane Creek MM in North Carolina where he died. At some point before 1744 the DOANs went from Bucks Co., PA to Cane Creek MM. Thomas DOAN was born about 1753 at Cane Creek, NC and died in Greene Co., TN. I see there are lots of BEWLEYs in Greene Co., TN but I don't see any references to Ann or Anna. I know there was an Anna KIMBLE who married a John BEWLEY, but she would have been 14 years older than Thomas DOAN. Not an impossible marriage but the daughter I am related to was born in 1779, making Anna KIMBLE DOAN in her 50s at that time. Does anyone have more info about Thomas DOAN & Anna BEWLEY? Thanks, Laura Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
