I am searching for information on the Lydia Saunders/Sanders family that lived for a period of time in Grainger Co. Lydia Saunders/Sanders, b abt 1786 in NC, married first a Wilson whose first name I don't know. At some point, they moved to Claiborne Co. They had a son, Benjamin Ajax Wilson who later took the surname of his step-father, John Robert Rice who lived in Claiborne Co. By family tradition, Benjamin Ajax Wilson/Rice married 1- Mrs. Vitittoe. I've run across the Vitittoe name in Grainger Co. BA Wilson/Rice married 2- Zelphia McFetridge whose family was from Grainger Co. They probably married in either Grainger Co or Anderson Co. BA Wilson/Rice and Zelphia moved to Harlan Co KY where he was a great landowner, millwright, builder, and Mason in Harlan Co and the area that later became Bell Co. It's believed he legally changed his name to Rice in about 1850 around the time he and Zelphia divorced. He married 3- Lutissia Tabitha Miller in 1860 of Knox Co KY, and after se! lling his property on St Creek they moved to Tazewell, Claiborne Co, TN where he died. He's buried in the Irish cemetery. He was quite a prolific man and is said to have fathered 21 or so children, w/ some being out of wedlock. I would appreciate any information at all on this family!
