However, there are two Algernon S Roach's that were born about 3 years apart. The one you mention, Algernon (Alga ) brother of Alfred M. was born in 1838 according to my records also. However, my Great Grandfather, Alfred Roach, born 1810 in Grainger Co.- first married Jane McDaniel. Their first born was Algernon S. Roach- born 1835. Although even this date doesn't match perfectly. it is possible Algernon S ( Alga ) was born in 1834. I almost certain this date came from 1850 census- and you know how one can be off a year or so on any census. In fact, my Grandfather was listed on 1860 census as being 5 years old- Henry Dawson Roach.-Grainger CO., TN I think everyone still uses that date of 1855 for his birth, but he was born April 11, 1853. I still can't get people to change that on their web sites. At any rate, I believe the Alga S. Roach that Gail listed information on is this Alga- son of Alfred & Jane McDaniel. I know from family history he served in the Civil War. There are other Alga's, but was born later. I think I have two others that I took pictures of their head stones while in Grainger Co in 2000. One was born in the 1870.s- and another- Alga -b. Sept5, 1891 I think this should clear up who this Alga is.
