    3. Folks - this is one story. I had this message from someone I wrote because I knew one person who had a story to tell about one incident regrding the records. Perhaps there is someone out there who would know how to get word to this family that the records are being cleaned, filmed and shelved. Unfortunately, I don't have a date of when this incident happened but probably not more than 20 years ago. "I do not remember his name, but we went to his house and he had a book of court records that his father or grandfather had been a Sheriff at the time that the book was logged. You went by the old jail and crossed the creek and went up around a curve and his house was on the left. He was moving to Fla. The next time we went there to see him, he had moved. He worked on the records for a while he said, before he got upset over people not wanting to preserve them. I have a name: Ray Greenlee--Rt. 3, Box 1--Rutledge Tn. Not sure if it is his name or not. Do not know why I have this name. Check on that for me. It is connected to our Shelton history. The book had court records in it and it was the year we thought that James was 17. There was a lot of records about a William Shelton who stayed in trouble all the time. For lewdness, drunkenness, and fighting in the book. He was wild and sounded like a lot of trouble. I think he had some other books also. He said if they ever done anything to save all the info, he would return the books. He also told me that they were moving to Fla. and if I wanted anymore info to contact him. He was referred to me by the librarian. He was really into family history and fighting with everyone to preserve the records. He was upset because the Mormon's had offered to come in and help and the committee said no. He was furious at the people for letting the records get in the shape they were in. He would get so upset when he talked about it that I worried about him. He was really a good man and I think that he did not want to see all the records eaten by bugs. He really preserved what he had as they were in excellent condition compared to what I saw at the school. Actually he saved a good part of history. If they are trying to salvage the mess they made of everything by being stubborn, then he should be contacted and the records returned. Let me know what you find out." When I got this, I looked in the "History of Tennessee" written in 1887 and found this listing.
