    3. SharR, You seem to be saying that a researcher took 114 (original) documents out of the old schoolhouse. I really hope this is not true. 3. Duane Mills: That's the information that has been going around on this mail list since I started my research a couple of years ago. The clerk's office just let anyone have the key to look through the old documents. There probably wasn't any supervision or method to make copies so people just walked away with documents. And from what I understand the remaining records are in disray and poor shape. It's so heartbreaking! 3. I have also heard that some records have 'disappeared' over the years, but am happy to report that at this time the records are being cleaned up and filmed. People are wearing masks as they work because of bird droppings and all that stuff - anyway, according to reports, they are making good progress. Some they are having to soak in a special solution because they are so brittle and they cannot unfold them until they correct the dried out condition. The state has made some funds available and the building is being repaird to keep the rain out and shelving has been furnished. If I understand correctly, 4 people are working full time on this project and have been for some months. sue --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Conni, I do not mean to imply that this is what happened in this case, but if it is, and SharR knows who has the documents, they should be required to make copies for themselves and return the originals so that future researchers are not penalized.
