    3. Hi, Gail ~ No, I didn't have the census information, and thank you for posting. Since this is not my direct line of the Roach family, I have not spent much time researching that particular line, but with all the Joice/Joyce conversation, I became curious about them. Thanks. A little Roach info: The Wm. S. Roach and Keziah living in the area was my g-g-uncle. Wm.S. was the older brother of Absalom Roach, md. Melvina Jane Cardwell. Abbsalom and family came to Texas in Dec 1855 with the entire Cardwell contingent and some other families (Jarnigan, Watkins, Chamberlain and others). Wm. S. came much later, bringing most of his family, but not Keziah. Before Keziah could come to Texas, William S. died. He is buried in Bunton Cemetery, Lytton Springs TX with Absalom and Melvina Jane. Keziah later remarried - to an E. P. Morgan. Absalom & William S.'s sister, Martha Ann Roach, md. John Dyer, also came to Texas and may have come at the same time as Absalom. That branch of the Dyers settled in Bastrop County TX - the next county over from Caldwell County. Betty B. He bought a potrack, a large kettle, a sheep shears and something else at my ancestor Sherrod Mayes sale. I have been meaning to transcribe this document and send it to Selena for a couple of years..., but I keep getting distracted trying to figure out who the buyers were <grin> There are nemerous connections between the Joices (Joyces) and the Mayes, of course.. I did notice the other night when I was printing off the entries for John and Nancy Mayes's children that Wortham was still listed on the 1850 census and so apparently did not migrate to Trigg County, Kentucky as did some of the other Grainger County Joices (Joyces). I do not know the exact relationships of the various Joyces, but it appears that they are all connected and according to census entries originally came from North Carolina. Anyway (you may already have this information) here is Wortham's household in 1850. He is listed two households from Big John Mayes son-in-law Marcus L. Daniel so I have this information right here. Grainger County, Tennessee, population schedule, page 25A, dwelling 348, family 360. Wortham Joyce 41 farmer born North Carolina Dianna 42 born Tennessee (all of the following born Tennessee) Phillip 12 Lucy 9 Julia F. 6 Susan C. 4 David W. 1 Thomas Bibens ?? 10 There is a Roach household next door, but the Roach is Wm S. (28)and the lady of the house aged 20 is Keziah E. I just pulled up my census CD and I can't find a Samuel Roach on the 1850 census in Grainger County. I also checked all the Mary Roachs of approximately the right age or at least those that appeared on the index (this index is not perfect) and none of the Mary Roachs appear to be your Mary.
