Dear Sheri, I do think I know something of Alexander Joyce (I will check my records and then email you directly unless others on the list are just terribly interested. I have not yet found out about the Thomason connection and why this gentleman was appointed Jane and Big John's children's guardian. There ARE connections between the Mayes and the Thomasons, but nothing that I can think of that would apply to Jane and Big John very closely, but there is a lot of things that I don't know. <grin> One of the older Joyce's in GR Co. List Here is a bit of information which was sent to me regarding the Joyce and Solomon lines: Sheri, Will try to answer the questions below. The line of Joyce's that I know about are as follows: Alexander Joyce born in VA died in Guilford Co. N. C, 5Mar. 1778 had 14 children 2 of which was John"Possum" 1743- ca1827 and James 1746 ca 1796. John bn in SalisburyDist. Stokes Co N.C. and md Lucy Edwards. They moved to GR Co. Tn in about 1828. They had a son named John that md Nancy Mayes (dau of Sherrod Mayes). They had a son Wilson Joyce that md Mary "Polly" Mayes (ca 15Nov 1859) sister of my gr gandfather Frederick Mayes. After Wilson died (1877) Mary md Richard T. Soloman 26 Feb 1878. Richard T. Soloman was born in Trigg Co, KY about 25Aug 1857. The fourth child of John and Sallie & Meredith) Soloman. John Soloman was born in Gr. Co.,TN and was in the Mexican War. R.T. and Mary Mayes/Joyce/Soloman had Cora, Josie and Oscar some of the descendants of Oscar lived close to me in LBL area. The Possum and Coon Joyce's is a long story. Will tell you later.
