    3. You said, "Number of children says 7 born and 5 still living with Martha L Aug 1879 and Ada listed still in the household at census time." In case you hadn't noticed my information on John W.'s second family is a little short too. <smile>I don't know where the missing children were. Maybe I should look out here. <grin> More about this later. Dochia would have been one of the children who had died. There is a child of L. B. and M. L Hodge buried next to John W. and Emmeline according to transcriptions of Economy. Martha Lou Long Hodge is buried in Emma Jarnigan cemetery in what appears to be a Hodge plot. (I have never been to East Tennessee <smile>) No listing for Luther B, but he may be buried there too I guess. Anyway I only have Ada N. Martha Lou and Dochia although there were apparently other children > > Debbie > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Gail Roorda<mailto:possum2@softhome.net> > To: TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:TNGRAING-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2006 2:39 PM > Subject: Re: [TNGRAING-L] Re: Another try > > > Deborah, > > Apparently both John W. and Emmeline were married before. 1. Re: The two Louisas Holt which is the widow of George Long
    2. Gail Roorda
    3. Dear fellow researchers, Please forgive me for continuing this LONG diatribe <grin> The John Holt household 1880 U. S. census Hamblen County Tennessee Holt John 66 Head Louisa 25 daughter Louisa 23 daughter Long, George 4 grandson I had forgotten this one. I just ran across this again when I was checking through my data in order to send it on to Carolyn. You wonder why I didn't perceive this to be a problem when I first transcribed this household some years ago. <grin> Now ONE of the two Louisas is the widow of George Long and the mother of George Long aged 4. The question is which one?? I thought about this for awhile. The truth is that there are people in my database whose dates I canNOT pin down even as closely as two years. OTOH not having the eact DOB of George Long's spouse is NOT the same as "marrying him off" to an entirely different woman. <grin> I remember some years ago when Grace was discussing the original Noes and assured us "Yes, there WERE two Elizabeths... The only person I could find online who was descended from the Holts and the Noes (and the ONLY person I could find who was researching the family of John and Anna Price Holt) was descended from Retta Noe. She had posted her message some years back. (I am sure she gave up genealogical research after encountering the two Louisas.) I was looking for someone from this family so I could fire off a brief emal. "Did members of your family do stuff like the a lot?????!!!!!" Why I first checked John Holt's household years ago. Debbie you said, Long George N. Mar 6, 1848-Oct 24, 1875 This is I believe Nick and Jane Long's son, George. The dates are right. However, like my Amanda, George would not have a death certificate and Stretzer funeral home records would begin later about 1900 I think. I didn't automatically assume (considering the Longs) that just because my Longs are buried in Ecomony and that this George's dates are right that this was him. I checked the census to make that Louisa was either living alone or had returned to her father's household. However, I don't think that George's middle initial was N or L. (one of the censuses says L) George and Louisa's marriage record says G. G. (I think Goerge's middle initial was G. Possibly G. Anyway I discussed the Louisas with my husband a couple of months back. Do you think there were actually two daughters named Louisa?? Answer: the two Louisa's are always listed in the household. How do you know that Goerge's widow married Jonathon Williams? Answer: There were two records one listing her name as Holt. The other as Long. This usually means the bride was married before. The DH with a deadpan expression; Louisa Holt and Louisa Holt Long both married Jonathon Williams on the same day. It was a "double" wedding. Bye for Now, Gail

    2. Gail Roorda
    3. I said <grin> "A little short too. <smile>I don't know where the missing children were." I now think my information was NOT all that "short". <smile> As far as I can see Dochia, Martha Lou Long Hodge and Ada Long Hazelwood were the only children born to John W. and Emmeline.and Dochia died before 1900. Aparently Emmeline's children by James A. Stephens were still living in 1900. These children would have been William "Willy" born circa 1865, Mary Alice? (this child was llisted as Mary A. in 1870 and Alice in 1880) born circa 1969 and Dora born circa 1872. Emmeline would have lost another child in addition to Dochia if the 1900 census entry was correct. There are some fairly large gaps between these children. I guess it could have been John W. and Emmeline's child...however, I think a child by either marriage would have most likely been buried in Economy, but I couldn't find this child listed in the current cemetery transcription. Gail >> Dochia would have been one of the children who had died. There is a >> child > of L. B. and M. L Hodge buried next to John W. and Emmeline according to > transcriptions of Economy.
