    3. Can anyone tell me if the lists of names Gail posted for the 1806 legislative petition just consisted of property owners? I am certain they all had to be over 21, but did they also have to own land to be able to sign this petition? Thanks, Eleanor

    3. > MOST LIKELY THE PETITIONERS WOULD HAVE HAD TO OWN LAND. Re land ownership. Perhaps that is true, but regarding land ownership on the 1810 Grainger County and the persons in column 1 which are as I said the only signatories I know anything about.... Dudley Mayes and his brother-in- law my 3rd great grandfather Benajmin Ivy were only taxed on a free poll iun the 1810 Grainger County tax list. Maybe you didn't have own land? OTOH <grin> maybe the petioners wanted a change in the road pretty badly. <samile> However, one would assume eligibility to vote WOULD be a prerequisite for signing a petition..<smile> Re the AGES of these signatories. Years ago when I first posted this petition to the East Tennessee L list...is this list still funtioning? I don't seem to have much time for lists anymore except for this one...My question being whether you wouldn't have had to be 21 to sgn such a petition. Nobody answered my question, but as I informed this list IF you HAD to be 21 then it seemed to me that the signers wanted the road to Kentucky pretty badly. I am convinced that at least one of the signers and poossibly several of the petioners in column 1 were NOT 21. Gail

    3. Further Moses and Jesse Hodge and John McCarty at least according to the 1810 tax list owned no land in 1810 or at least no land was list in the tax list.
