If not, she can be contacted through other serious Shelton researchers) Early Grainger Co. court minutes transcribed by Victoria Toms: 1798, November 19 William Mitchell vs. Isaiah Midkiff - members of the jury included Joseph Ore, Peter Noe, John Rhea, David Inman and David McAnally; found for plaintiff and assigns damage to Seventy Dollars, Sixty two Cents and Six Cents Costs. Note: Isaiah Midkiff (Esquire) was the man who gave Security for the marriage bond of Richard SHELTON and Temperance Street. Although he was a member of the Court at various times - I find him involved in numerous lawsuits through the years. My early research showed that the Midkiff Family came from Pittsylvania County, VA. 1798, November 22 A Deed of Conveyance from John Davis to Ephraim Guffey proven in open Court let it be registered. James Johnson vs. David SHELTON - debt. Came a Jury (to Wit) Peter Noe, Henry Howell, David Inman, John Owen, Wm Murphey, James Moore, Joseph Ore, Dennis Condrie, David Haley, George Combs, William Wear, John Beeler. 1799, February 18 The Grand Jury Impaneled and sworn (to Wit) - Major Lea foreman, Henry Mayes Francis Daniels, Pleasant Duke, Joseph Noe Senr. And gave George Bean, Martin Bunch, Peter Noe, Spencer Griffin and David SHELTON Securities __? Gave Bond in the penal sum of one thousand forty seven Dollars and seventy Cents Conditioning for the collection and payment of the county tax and gave George Bean, Peter Noe, Martin Bunch, David SHELTON & Spencer Griffin & took the oath prescribed by law. It is therefore considered by the Court that he do forfeit according to Act of Assembly. 1802, May 22 A Bill of sale from James Roddy to James Ore for a Negro man slave named Lamon was proven in open Court by George Noe a subscribing witness - Orderd to be Recorded. 1802, August 17 (unreadable) Colbert vs. Elizabeth Harlin, administrator of Mary Ashurt } appeal Whereupon came a jury to wit David Lay, Reubin Riggs Luke Williams, Jackson Smith, George Noe, Joseph Powell, Abner Moore, Frederick Miller, John Hamill, Davis SHELTON and Henry Hypsheer; foumd for the plaintiff. Peter Noe vs.Joseph Cobb } (unreadable) Conversion Plea not guility Whereupon came a jury to wit David Lay, Dennis Condray, Reubin Riggs, Luke Williams, Jackson Smith, Joseph Crabb, Joseph Powell, Aquilla Jones, Frederick Miller, John Hammil, David SHELTON and Henry Hypsheer; found for the defendant George Noe comes into Court & enters into a Bond in the sum of three hundred dollars and gives James Ore and Thomas Henderson his securities, which said Bond has a condition that the said George Noe & his securities will indemnify the county against any charge or maintenance of a bastard child of which Catharine Sharp single woman has been delivered, he the said George Noe being the reputed father thereof. 1802, August 19 Present ~ David McEnelly & Chesley Jarnigan James Ore vs. Thomas Mc Donald Whereupon came a jury to wit Edmund Holt, John Gillington, David SHELTON, Henry Howell, Peter Noe, John Crabb, John Ward, John Stewart, Bluford Woodall, John Arnwine, George Noe & John Hamill; find for the plaintiff. Deed A:116 David Shelton of Grainger to Joseph Noe of same for $100 sold land in Grainger on north side Holston about 2 miles below the mouth of German Creek joining the lower end of James Nicholas's tractŠ [signed] David Shelton Wit: Joseph Cobb and Moses Hodge Proven in open court. Reg'd 27 April 1799 Note by vat: This is the same tract of land that Isam Chisum sold to David on 6/10/1798. Notice that the registration dates are the same 4/27/1799. David lost 30 dollars on the transaction. 1802 August 19 Marriages of Grainger Co., Tenn.1796-1835, by Edythe Rucker Whitley (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1982), p. 10. [see notes below by Victoria Toms, 11/17/02] David Shelton to Nancy Rodgers; bdsm: George Noe. Note #1 by vat: This could possibly be the younger David. Note #2 by vat: David Shelton sold land he purchased from Isam Chisum (100 acres on North side Holston abt. 2 miles below the mouth of German Creek) to Joseph Noe on 2/20/1799. I copied other deeds naming Joseph Noe Sr, Joseph Noe, David Noe and Jacob Noe - but not George. I would like to revisit the Indexes and see if George Noe is mentioned. 1803 November 19 1808 Grainger Co., Tenn. tax list (fragment) WPA Records Mf. Illegible] tracts of land whereon Andrew Coffman now lives each tract containing 200 acres each the grant in the name of Ralph Shelton #93 the other #94 beginning at at a white walnut on bank of river corner of conditional line made between Richard Shelton and William StreetŠto conditional line between said Ralph Shelton and Richard SheltonŠto the beginningŠ123 acresŠ.
