Gail: In checking marriages for Nancy Long I came across a marriage for Nancy Cooter to Robert Long on 17 February 1839 in Jefferson County. Marriage sanctioned by John Ward, JP. Do you know this couple and are they connected to your Nicholas Long who married Jane Cooter? I could find no Nancy marrying a Long in Grainger or Hawkins that was of a year that would make it feasible to be the Nancy Long in question. There were two other marriages listed in Jefferson for Nancy's to marry Longs: Nancy White to Nicholas Long, bond dated 27 March 1813. Bondsman was John Collins - but there was no return listed. However, the date of 1813 would not be feasible since the Nancy in question was born about 1814 in Tennessee. Nancy Jones to Nicholas William Long, 3 March 1846. Bondsman was Ephrain Long and the marriage was sanctioned by A. P. Gass, JP. This marriage would be too late to be the Nancy Long listed with a daughter Emily, age 11, listed in the 1850 census.
