Mickey and all, I am in Overton Co, TN and a group from our Overton Co Historical Society have begged and finally received a room in the Courthouse Annex to archive our old records which were also in a deplorable condition. So far, we have worked hundreds of VOLUNTEER hours sorting, cleaning and filing our records which date into the early 1800's. When we first started we had contacted the LDS people and they sent us a couple of missionaries who worked with us for about a year helping us get organized and giving us pointers about how to go about our work, now we are on our own. We have a elected a County Archivist who organizes our schedule and we work on Monday nights for about 3 hours and anytime thru the week that we can. It is dirty and tedious work but just think of the "treasures" that you find and we also have fun working together. We also contacted the TN State Library and Achives who sent some of their staff for an all-day workshop and this helped us also. As someone who has "been there" and is still there, my hat goes off to Mickey and the others and I wish you luck in you endeavor. After we elected our Archivist and the County Commissioners approved of this (they are not really behind us, just go along to keep us happy!) we have accepted donations from individuals to use for supplies, copies, etc. which is handled by our Society treasurer and have really been blessed with financial help from many states. Good luck, Paula Swallows Stover, President Overton Co Historical and Genealogical Society Paula in Overton Co, Tn Researching: SWALLOWS,NEAL,GORE,GIBBONS,HYDER,GREEN,HARDY,ADAMS,COPELAND,TOWNSEND, DODSON,BILBREY,STOVER,WINNINGHAM,DENNIS,PRYOR,MOORE, PHILLIPS, CRAWFORD,FINLEY,REID,JUDD,CONNER,JACKSON,KINDER,JOHNSON,SIMCOE(SIMCOCK).
