James W. KNIGHT, b. abt 1826 in Laurel County, KY (stated on Civil War Records. Tradition says he was the son of an Indian Scout for the U.S. Army in the late 1700's or early 1800's. No confirmation. James moved around a lot going from Fayette to Marion to Jefferson Counties, IL. Was also in MO for awhile. Died and buried in Fayette County, IL. Married Elizabeth MAY/MAYS. She was born in Tennessee. Had 9 children by Elizabeth: George Wesley, Nancy Jane, Thomas Ewing, Lina Louisa, Parnissa Ampha, Addie, Jesse Leaton, William David, Lillian B., and Delilah Elizabeth. Married 2nd, Charlotte MARSHALL, Had son Oscar in 1878. The next year 1879, both James and Charlotte died and child was hired out as servant when old enough.
