The Grainger County Library in Rutledge, Tenn. now has a Canon Microfilm Reader and Printer with a Coin Meter so all you genealogy researchers can copy records that are on microfilm in the library. The Grainger County Heritage Book Committee came together more than two years ago merely as acquaintances with Graninger County roots and certainly with no plans of it becoming a money making project. What evolved was the publication of "Grainger County, Tenn. and Its People, 1796-1998". The sales of the book were overwhelming and we accrued a sizeable profit. As we worked with the people who submitted articles, we became aware of the condition of the records in our own county. It was a unanimous decision of the committee to help the people with "roots" here to access the records. In December 1998, we made a proposal to the city of Rutledge to use space in the Nance House for a library of county records using our money to aid in that project. To this date we do not know the status of that proposal. However, we made the decision to go ahead and purchase the Microfilm Reader and Printer as a part of this project for the Rutledge Library. This equipment will enable all interested people and genealogist to both view and print copies of county records on film in the library. Most of the records that are in the old school building are on microfilm in the library - Deaths, Deeds, Marriages, Court Records, etc. Library hours are Monday 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 - 5:00 PM. The Court House in Rutledge is closed Wednesday afternoons. We hope you continue to enjoy the book and now the access to more of the County Records by using this equipment.
