Hi again, I have figured out from my own research that the Captain's companies did represent geographic areas. Since some of my ancestors seemed to keep living in the same place I can figure out about which geographic area the captain's companies the were listed in would cover. As in Captain Mckee's (1799), Captain Howell's (1805), and Captain Lacy's (1822) apparently were about where Civil District 2 was on the 1850-1870 Grainger County census. The section of Grainger County where my ancestors lived became part of Hamblen County (created 1870). However, in answer to you question although there are apparently maps showing the area the Civil Districts covered I kwno of no source which would list the geographic area the Captain's companies covered. Perhaps someone else does?? Gail in MO > Hello! > I found who I think is our ancestor Matthew McPhetridge/McFetridge > listed on the 1799 Tax Surnames List for Grainger Co. TN.
