I am looking for information on a Samuel or Thompson BUTLER around 1830-1850 Grainger Co., TN. I do not yet know if these folks are related to each other OR even to me. Trying to place the parents of my gg-grandfather Calvin M. BUTLER who married 1st- Adaline HAYNES on Oct. 03, 1857. Calvin then went served in the Civil War as a Union Soldier, First Cavalry C Company, interring at Flatlick, KY. He also is seen to have served with the 4 Regiment Tennessee. He is supposedly featured in a book called Tennesseans in the Civil War, but I have never had the opportunity to view this article. It is unknown to me what happened to Adaline.... but Calvin later married Ellen "Virginia" ROLAND (may have other spelling such as ROLEN, RHOLEN, ROWLAND). Virginia and Calvin had nine children together. They were> William H. Charles M., Susan V., Ellen A., Martin Luther, Burton Lloyd, Mary Louise, and Hattie BUTLER. According to his widow's pension records, Calvin died on December 29, 1890. Our family has not been able to locate a gravesite for him. Virginia and most of the children went to Fannin Co, Texas between 1896 and 1899 or so. Virginia died in Ector, Texas in 1899. Assoc. surnames may be STRINGFIELD and SAIN. Calvin had a brother named JAMES M. BUTLER that was married to a UNITY WHITEHEAD. James and Calvin's mother MAY have been named RUTH????? These folks have been a brick wall for us. Any help folks would be * greatly * appreciated. Assoc. surnames may be STRINGFIELD and SAIN. MANY THANKS! Debbie
