I prepared this index of all names appearing in the biographies a few years ago rather than do lookups and Betty Allen put in on the Grainger County GenWeb site when she was coordinator. But there is a new coordinator and it is no longer available there, though I have offered it to the new coordinator. I don't have a website. However, I have given permission to two persons who asked to put on their websites: Billie McNamara's Grainger county website at http://web.utk.edu/~kizzer/grainger/ and Donna Trewitt's website at http://surnamesite.com Also, the TNGENWEB project is putting the full text of all of Goodspeed's biographies for Tennessee online. 56 counties have been done and 40, including Grainger are unavailable. Check these out at http://www.tngenweb.org/goodspeed/ You can also access my messages of yesterday and all other past TNGRAING messages anytime by searching the TNGRAING archives via http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl by entering TNGRAING as the list to search and following instructions there. The book is HISTORY OF TENNESSEE . . . Containing Historical and Biographical Sketches of Thirty East Tennessee Counties: Anderson, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, James, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Unicoi, and Washington. Goodspeed Pub. Co., 1887. It was reprinted with an index by McDowell Publications in 1978 and by Southern Historical Press in 1980. I bought my copies back then. I think McDowell became Cook-McDowell since then. I still get catalogues from SHP. It may have been reprinted again or by others. You can order it by internet, phone, or mail from Hearthstone Books at http://www.hearthstonebooks.com/ or Byron Sistler & Associates at http://www.mindspring.com/~sistler/ and probably most other genealogy book dealers. I primarily use my local bookstore, Hearthstones, first and also, Sistlers, based in Tennessee, which carries many history and genealogy books about Tennessee and other states. Hopefully this will answer most of the questions I have been receiving since posting the indexes. Ross Cameron
